POSITION: Juvenile Evidence-Based Programs Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours as arranged

SALARY: $1,910.04 Biweekly


Incumbent serves as Juvenile Evidence-Based Programs Coordinator for Tippecanoe County Youth Services, responsible for identifying, implementing, coordinating and evaluating evidence-based programming across the juvenile justice system.


DUTIES:

Maintains records of all evidence-based programming provided or funded by Tippecanoe County Government for juveniles.

Routinely reviews data regarding youth in Tippecanoe County and the juvenile justice system and identifies evidence-based programs and practices to implement.

Coordinates waiting lists and implementation of all evidence-based programming; sitting in on programming as needed to ensure quality of care and consistency to evidence-based models and practices.

Trains facilitators in Evidence-Based Practices to ensure that course curriculum is taught with fidelity to each program model.

Collects, compiles, and analyzes outcome data for each program, including, but not limited to, recidivism, attendance and successful completion, and other exit surveys.

Provides direct service groups to youth and parents on a continual basis, including, but not limited to, ART, Girls Circle, Staying Connected with Your Teen, Parenting the Teen Brain, PAINT, Let's Talk, Interactive Journaling to youth and parents on a continual basis.

Assists in Juvenile Alternatives programs, such as Home Detention and Electronic Monitoring, as needed.

Communicates with referral agencies and parent advocates regarding youth and family needs, strengths, challenges, program completion, and program offerings.

Regularly evaluates the needs of youth in the juvenile justice system and seeks program expansion or modification based on unmet needs and/or gaps.

Attends regular staff meetings.

Testifies in court as needed.

Performs related duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Baccalaureate degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, child development, or related field.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Working knowledge of evidence-based and best practices for youth in juvenile justice system.

Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to maintain records of all evidence-based programming.

Ability to effectively work and communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, officials from various governmental, non-profit, and social service agencies, program participants and their families, various law enforcement agencies, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities

Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, fax machine, and copier.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.

Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records according to State requirements.

Ability to comply with all employer and Department work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons and ability to work with "at risk" youth and families.

Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure.

Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions and present findings in oral or written form.

Ability to compare or observe similarities and differences in data, compile, analyze and evaluate data, and make determinations based on data analyses.

Ability to apply knowledge of people and/or locations, plan and layout assigned work projects, make simple arithmetic calculations, and plan and present public speaking presentations.

Ability to frequently work extended, weekend, and/or evening hours, and travel out of town, sometimes overnight.

Ability to testify in legal proceedings/court.

Possession of valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.


DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

Incumbent performs regular and recurring duties, with interrelationships among them not always self-evident. Incumbent utilizes general instructions, guidelines and rules, selecting the appropriate ones to apply to specific cases.


RESPONSIBILITY:

Incumbent uses standard departmental practices, policies, and procedures to apply to specific situations and tasks. Work product is subject to supervisory review upon completion and is assessed according to attainment of desired results, soundness of judgment, and general conformity with departmental standards and policies.


PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Incumbent maintains communication with co-workers, officials from various governmental, non-profit, and social service agencies, program participants and their families, various law enforcement agencies, and the public for purposes instructing, supervising participants, and administering program operations.

Incumbent reports directly to Youth Services Executive Director.


PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Incumbent works in a standard office environment, in family homes, and in schools, involving sitting/walking at will, close vision, speaking clearly, hearing sounds/communication, and lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds. Incumbent is exposed to potentially violent and hostile program participants. Incumbent frequently works extended, weekend, and/or evening hours, and travels out of town, sometimes overnight.
