Kennel Services Advocate

Full-Time Position

Harbor House of Central Florida is Orange County's state-certified Domestic Violence service provider. We offer a comprehensive range of services, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and community education. We are committed to providing a Place of Hope where survivors and their pets can find safety and support.

Position Overview:

Harbor House is seeking an experienced and compassionate individual to serve as a Kennel Services Advocate. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our mission to remove barriers for survivors of domestic violence, including those with pets. Often, animals are the first victims in abusive situations, and our on-site kennel-one of the only of its kind in the state-offers a safe haven for them. You will be responsible for the general care, cleanliness, and maintenance of our kennel and shelter animals, ensuring a sanitary and efficient environment. Your work as a domestic violence advocate will directly contribute to the well-being of both our human and animal clients, particularly those residing in the emergency shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide humane feeding, watering, and care for animals on campus.
  • Maintain and operate the kennel in a sanitary and efficient manner.
  • Offer effective and immediate crisis intervention for survivors as a domestic violence advocate.
  • Collaborate with the broader team to support survivors and their pets as they transition to safety.
  • Assist with tasks related to working in the emergency shelter, ensuring a supportive and safe environment for all residents.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma/GED and/or vocational training. Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
  • 2-3 years of experience in animal health, nutrition, and humane care preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to perform several tasks concurrently.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills and a clean driving record are required.
  • Must attend a 3-day training to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors.
