Our holistic approach ensures that all members of the family, including children, have the support they need to heal and thrive.
JOB SUMMARYWe are seeking a dedicated Child & Teen Advocate to join our team. In this role, you will provide vital support to children and teens who have experienced domestic violence. You will facilitate support groups, conduct service intakes, and offer crisis intervention and referrals. Working closely with our Case Managers and community partners, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to create a safe and nurturing environment for young survivors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Advocacy & Support: Provide direct advocacy and support to children and teens impacted by domestic violence, helping them navigate their experiences and access the services they need.
- Group Facilitation: Lead and facilitate age-appropriate support groups for children and teens, creating a safe space for them to express their feelings and learn coping strategies.
- Crisis Intervention: Offer immediate crisis intervention for children, teens, and their families, connecting them with appropriate resources and referrals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Harbor House Case Managers and other advocacy programs to ensure comprehensive support for young survivors.
- Prevention Efforts: Engage in community outreach and education to help prevent domestic violence by raising awareness and promoting healthy relationships.
- Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate's Degree or higher is preferred. A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is also preferred. Relevant professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Experience: At least one year of experience in child care or a related field is required. Experience working with children in crisis situations is highly valued.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of child growth and development.
- Basic counseling skills with the ability to work effectively with children of all ages.
- Ability to plan, organize, and conduct learning activities.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- A valid Florida Driver's License and insurability under agency insurance are mandatory.
- Must complete CORE Competency training within 30 days of hire.
