Position Title: Child Advocate

Full-Time Opportunity

Harbor House of Central Florida is on the lookout for a compassionate and skilled Child Advocate to become a part of our dedicated team. In the role of a domestic violence advocate, you will be instrumental in fostering a secure, nurturing, and developmentally suitable atmosphere for the children of domestic violence survivors who are under our care. Your duties will encompass facilitating engaging activities, executing educational programs, and ensuring the tidiness and orderliness of the facility and classrooms.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Establish and uphold a safe and encouraging childcare environment for children impacted by domestic violence.
  • Design and implement interactive and age-appropriate educational activities and programs.
  • Conduct routine cleaning and organization of the facility and classrooms to ensure a safe setting.
  • Effectively respond to children and adults in crisis, contributing to the overarching mission as a domestic violence advocate.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is essential; CDA certification is preferred.
  • Completion of 45-hour DCF training and CPR/First Aid certification is mandatory.
  • Must fulfill the State of Florida requirements for childcare providers.
  • Understanding of child development, signs of abuse, and the impact of domestic violence on both children and adults.
  • Capability to lift and carry children weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Basic computer proficiency is necessary.
  • A valid Florida driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is advantageous.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years' experience in early childhood education is required.
  • Prior experience as a domestic violence advocate or in a comparable position is highly regarded.
