It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO and the OSCE, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe. The SWC is headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Jerusalem and Buenos Aires. The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, founded in 1993, is the educational arm of the SWC. Moriah Films is the Center’s two-time Academy Award®-winning film division and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem is scheduled to open in 2025.


About the role:

The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, challenges visitors to confront bigotry and racism and to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts through cutting-edge interactive exhibits housed in a stunning multimedia environment. Since opening in 1993, the Museum has hosted over 6 million visitors. More than 1.5 million children and youth have participated in the Museum experience and its programs and over 200,000 adults have been trained in the Museum’s customized Tools for Tolerance® professional development programs.


We are currently accepting applications from adults interested in volunteering at the Museum of Tolerance for the next volunteer class. The next class of volunteers will train at the Museum in Fall 2024.Volunteers contribute to the Museum in a variety of ways, from leading tours in the museum’s exhibition spaces to assisting with special events.


We request that Volunteers commit a minimum of one year as a volunteer and approximately 100 hours per year in their role. Volunteers must commit to completing all required training and attending required trainings as well as optional meetings to the extent possible.


An administrative fee of $45 will be requested to cover the cost of training materials. Limited scholarships are available upon request.


About you:

We are looking for volunteers dedicated to the mission, goals and ideals of the MOT. We seek volunteers with respect for cultural diversity and a commitment to social justice. Volunteers should have enthusiasm for continued learning and training and demonstrate reliability. As a volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to make a difference in your own life, as well as in the lives of others, and should be motivated to empower individuals to make a difference. Prior knowledge of or experience in the subject matters covered in the Museum of Tolerance is not required. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds.


Volunteers are supervised by Emily Szasz, Program Coordinator, Volunteer Services, and are based in Los Angeles at the Museum of Tolerance, 9786 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 90035.

Responsibilities:

· Participate in Museum training and orientation.

· Complete independent training and study as needed.

· Demonstrate personal reliability, excellent communication, and timeliness.

· At all times, demonstrate respect for colleagues and visitors in all aspects of conduct, including respect for diverse perspectives and lived experiences.

· Participate in continued training and learning throughout time as a volunteer.

· Depending on skills, qualifications, and Museum needs, Volunteers may complete duties included, but not limited to:

· Greeting public visitors at the MOT as an Exhibit Assistant.

· Facilitating educational programs for youth groups, including STEPS to Tolerance.

· Conducting school tours for student groups.

· Assisting with archival processing and historical research in the Archives, based on need

· Assisting with special programs and events


Volunteers are expected to demonstrate professionalism and respect throughout all aspects of position, and to contribute positively to the dynamics of the Volunteer Department as well as the Museum as a whole. Volunteers will receive regular review and are subject to professional expectations as determined by the Museum.
