Position Summary

The HR Director works in collaboration with the Board of Directors, Leadership and team members to advance sustainability and growth by providing strategic and administrative oversight of the human resource function. Sets policies, procedures, and goals shaping the food bank culture to enable mission delivery with oversight on recruiting, team member engagement, compensation/ benefit programming, training and development, performance management, personal records/ systems management and retention.


Essential Duties/Functions:

  • Develop and implement an HR strategy aligned with the organizational strategic plan.
  • Refine and enhance HR processes to recruit, develop, retain engaged talent.
  • Oversee team member recruitment and staffing plans. Ensure effective onboarding and orientation processes are in place and utilized.
  • Assess team member engagement and establish continuous improvement strategies and tactics, including a reward and recognition framework. Recommend and deploy qualitative and quantitative tools to measure progress.
  • Create and implement a formal diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging engagement strategy, cultivating a welcoming culture and fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Design, benchmark, implement and support a competitive compensation and benefit strategy including wage and salary segmentation and deployment, as well as benefit offerings and administration.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers on organizational improvements and team member development including fostering leadership skills, problem solving strategies, tactics and coaching
  • Implement a performance management process and team member development and advancement initiatives to support an environment focused on continuous improvement. Assist with documentation, team member performance issues, coaching strategies, and termination meetings warranted.
  • Manage ongoing maintenance of position descriptions of all team members. Conduct an annual audit to ensure all positions are current and classified correctly as per US Department of Labor guidelines.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, support and evaluation of direct report team member(s) to aid in team member success, growth and contributions toward mission and vision delivery.
  • Establish the necessary separation of duties for payroll, benefits and other similar administrative accountabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal labor and employment regulations. Remain up to date on human resource best practices to evaluate and adopt when beneficial.
  • Revise and publish team member handbook, policy manual and procedure documentation as warranted.
  • Develop with leadership team, department and organizational budgets in conjunction with the annual work plan in support of strategic and annual operating plans.
  • Build rapport and actively engage with CEO and leadership team to ensure organizational success.
  • Participate on Board of Directors subcommittees as assigned.
  • Advocate on behalf of the Food Bank to increase awareness of mission and vision.
  • Represent the Food Bank at community, Feeding Kentucky and Feeding America engagements.
  • Stay abreast of current events and issues that may affect the Food Bank.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation $95,000 to $105,000 annually

Requirements:

Education/ Skills Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Human Resource Management or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • PHR or SPHR certification and SHRM Membership desired.
  • Prior Non-Profit, Food Banking or relevant human/ social experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of team member engagement strategies in a warehouse or a manufacturing environment is helpful but not required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR management issues, policies, programs and regulations including experience with recruitment and selection, compensation, team member relations and performance management.
  • Highly attentive to detail.
  • Ability to keep the highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word and Excel.
  • Able to work independently and to organize and prioritize work.
  • Able to analyze federal and state employment legislation.
