Position Summary

The GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Partnership is funded by the US Department of Education to increase the college-going rate of low-income secondary school students in these school systems. GUAR-CRN provides training and support for administrators and teachers at secondary schools with a majority of low-income students and support and assistance directly to students to enhance preparation for post-secondary education. This is a twelve-month, full-time position contingent upon continued external funding.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The GUAR-CRN Assistant Director assists the Director with the overall management of GUAR-CRN grant deliverables and supports GUAR-CRN staff, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinating and organizing scholarships and scholarship distribution as stated in the grant.
  • Train Regional Coordinators to gather, evaluate, and report educational data in relation to the grant outcomes.
  • Assist in data collection, evaluation, and reporting from partner schools for the Annual Performance Report.
  • The Assistant Director develops and maintains program visibility in GUAR-CRN schools, develops and maintains collaborative relationships with K-14 and high education institutions, and develops collaborative relationships with other college-going programs.
  • The Assistant Director establishes ongoing training for school district sites and supervises the regional program coordinators.
  • The Assistant Director is the primary lead for the GUAR-CRN Summer Program and field trips events and works to support GUAR-CRN Partners and Staff on survey and data collection.
  • The Assistant Director trains Regional Coordinators on assessing the needs of the student population served.
  • The Assistant Director works with program partners and school districts to develop academic outreach programs designed to increase the number of college-eligible and college-bound students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and provides academic enrichment opportunities for targeted high school and middle school students.
  • The Assistant Director assists the Project Director with the overall management of the GUAR-CRN grant.
  • The Assistant Director provides leadership to multiple staff, manages the GUAR-CRN Staff Training Program, and is responsible for communicating policies and procedures.
  • The Assistant Director works to strengthen organizational relationships with K-14 and high education institutions to create and expand grant services and enrichment activities.

  • Knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements, academic standards, administrative and governance structures, faculty relations, school protocols, and categorical funding.
  • Technology skills in alignment with the modern workplace.

  • Master’s degree in education or related discipline.
  • Experience working with and in public schools.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary education requirements and financial aid.
  • Public Relations experience.
