Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Education Specialist to join our team at Community Action Program for Central Arkansas. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of our Education and Early Childhood Development content area for children birth-5 years of age.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and provide guidance in Literacy and Transition content areas.
  • Serve as a member of the Administrative Office Management Team and the Early Childhood Management Team in overall coordination and planning for the early childhood programs.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and cooperate with all staff, parents, volunteers, and community persons.
  • Monitor and ensure that all children's records and documentation follow CAPCA Policies and Procedures, Office of Head Start Head Performance Standards, state licensing requirements, and other regulations.
  • Obtain CLASS Reliability and maintain current certification. Conduct CLASS Observations of every preschool classroom each program year and provide teachers feedback and professional development goals.
  • Provide direction to classroom staff in the development and use of learning centers and in purchasing educational supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for overseeing the monitoring of lesson plans and providing feedback by the center managers.
  • Assist in interviewing and making recommendations for educational staff positions.
  • Serve as a support and role model for staff in centers.
  • Assist classrooms with classroom arrangements and environments.
  • Model and demonstrate Head Start classroom practices.
  • Participate in staffing & IEP meetings as needed.
  • Attend and participate/assist in staff and team trainings and meetings, providing observations and input about educators, children, and programming.
  • Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind for parent and community activities.
  • Serve as part of the annual Self-Assessment Team.
  • Develop and present training programs to large group settings, using PowerPoint, Smart Board, or other electronic media.
  • Responsible for data management in MYHS and PIR relevant to the Education content area.
  • Responsible for avoidance or appearance of fraud and ensuring compliance in the overall management of the Agency.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood or related field.
  • Obtain CLASS reliability certification within 12 months of hire. Must maintain certification annually thereafter.
  • Two years in Head Start or another child development program.
  • Computer proficient.
  • Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle with liability insurance, and willing to use vehicle for Agency-related travel.
  • Able to travel out of town overnight to attend training or make on-site visits.
  • Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a dedicated interest in community projects.
  • Have initiative and ability to motivate groups of people and to stimulate group action.
  • Be in sympathy with the concepts of the Head Start program.
  • Able to delegate responsibilities.
  • Able to keep confidential information without inappropriately divulging it.
  • Have planning and organizational abilities.
  • Able to make decisions and work without continual close supervision.
Salary and Benefits

$35,880.00 annually, budgeted for approximately 12 months per year. Full-Time/Non-Exempt position, Mon.-Fri. 8:00am-5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break and the availability of some work from home options.
