Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general oversight of the Executive Director and direct supervision of the Education Manager, this role is pivotal in advancing the Education and Early Childhood Development initiatives for children aged birth to 5 years. The incumbent will coordinate and provide expert guidance in the Literacy and Transition domains.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participate as a key member of the Administrative Office Management Team and the Early Childhood Management Team, facilitating overall coordination and strategic planning for early childhood programs.
  2. Engage actively in School Readiness Team Meetings.
  3. Maintain a professional demeanor while collaborating with staff, parents, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  4. Ensure compliance with CAPCA Policies and Procedures, Office of Head Start Performance Standards, state licensing requirements, and other relevant regulations by monitoring children's records and documentation.
  5. Achieve CLASS Reliability certification within the first year of employment and conduct CLASS Observations in preschool classrooms annually, providing constructive feedback and professional development objectives for educators.
  6. Guide classroom staff in the creation and utilization of learning centers and in the procurement of educational materials and equipment.
  7. Oversee the evaluation of lesson plans and provide constructive feedback to center managers.
  8. Assist in the recruitment process and make recommendations for educational staff positions.
  9. Act as a mentor and support figure for staff within educational centers.
  10. Assist in optimizing classroom arrangements and environments.
  11. Demonstrate and model effective Head Start classroom practices.
  12. Participate in staffing and IEP meetings as required.
  13. Contribute to staff and team training sessions, offering insights and observations regarding educators, children, and programming.
  14. Support the documentation of In-Kind contributions for parent and community engagement activities.
  15. Contribute to the annual Self-Assessment Team efforts.
  16. Design and deliver training programs to large groups using PowerPoint, Smart Board, or other electronic media.
  17. Manage data related to the Education content area in MYHS and PIR.
  18. Ensure adherence to ethical standards and compliance in the overall management of the Agency.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uphold confidentiality across all aspects of the Head Start Program.
  2. Participate in professional development training as required.
  3. Demonstrate resilience in managing stress and interactions with children and adults.
  4. Be prepared to administer first aid as necessary, recognizing this as a secondary duty.
  5. Perform other job-related tasks as needed for the effective operation of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required.
  • CLASS reliability certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained annually thereafter.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years in Head Start or a comparable child development program is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications is essential.
  • Physical Requirements: Candidates must pass tuberculosis screening annually and complete an initial health examination within 90 days of employment.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with liability insurance are necessary for agency-related travel.
  • Willingness to travel out of town overnight for training or site visits is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults, both orally and in writing.
  • Specific vision capabilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds may be necessary.
  • Skills: Proficient in reading, writing, and performing mathematical calculations.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and the ability to motivate and engage groups are essential. A commitment to the principles of the Head Start program is vital.

COMPENSATION: The annual salary for this position is $35,880, budgeted for approximately 12 months per year. This is a full-time, non-exempt role, with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including a one-hour lunch break and potential options for remote work.
