Job Overview:

The Network Field Engineer will play a lead role in the planning, implementation, and field support of the network infrastructure. The candidate will be responsible for the configuration and deployment of network equipment within DigitalC’s multi-layered environment. We are looking for an experienced candidate with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks & projects appropriately in a fast-paced and high-growing Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for facilitating site readiness and activations for new deployments and ongoing projects with an emphasis on Multi Dwelling Units (MDUs) environments.
  • Strong focus on site surveys to ensure proper wiring, power, and equipment placement in Multi Dwelling Units (MDUs), rooftops and telco-towers.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to troubleshoot Ethernet cabling including RJ45, T-568B connections, cable color code, and IEEE 802.X PoE [PoE, PoE+, PoE++] standards.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to troubleshoot environments reliant on Fiber and Coax cabling including but not limited to – single-mode, multi-mode, and diverse SFP connections & connectors standards.
  • Become familiar with DigitalC's network, technologies, tools, and daily operations.
  • Responsible for the configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of equipment, including but not limited to network switches and backhaul radios, at new sites and buildings.
  • Ensure that the network infrastructure is properly configured and documented to support the highest availability and reliability.
  • Research and/or investigate technical issues impacting the organization and recommend solutions.
  • Responsible for project completion audits according to the organizational guidelines.
  • Strong focus on the coordination of routine maintenance and upgrades with the Engineering team in correspondence to network performance and addressing outages.
  • Work closely with the Engineering team members to influence designs and test strategies to improve network reliability, scalability, and standardization.
  • Provide support to project management group regarding project execution and completion.
  • Develop, maintain, and update library of deployment documentation for trouble incidents.
  • Participate in on-call rotation schedules and respond to after-hour issues in a timely manner based upon the severity and/or business impact.
 

Qualifications/Skills:                                                                                                                                          

  • Fundamental understanding of network routing and switching.
  • Adequate competency in IP, TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and log collection.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues methodically and understand the root cause.
  • Strong understanding of wireless standards, technologies, and implementations in carrier networks.
  • Good understanding of Wireless Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) deployments and configurations.
  • Moderate experience with LAN, WAN, and WLAN configuration management and administration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical skills, continuous drive for improvement and progression.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete important time sensitive tasks.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of drive & energy.

Preferred Requirements:                                                                                                                                        

  • Bachelor’s  degree in engineering (IT, Telecom) and 3-5 years’ experience working in the Telecom/WISP industry.
  • Networking Certifications including but not limited to – CompTIA Network+, CCNA and CCNP.
  • Wireless Network Certification(s).
  • Internet Service Provider (ISP) / Wireless ISP/ Telecommunication background preferred.
