POSITION SUMMARY
The Corporate Safety officer will oversee the planning, directing and implementation of the Company Safety Program. This individual will seek to secure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment on every project.
Deliverables:
Oversee comprehensive training programs for team members, ensuring thorough education on safety protocols and provision of necessary resources for safe task execution, fostering a culture of positivity and safety awareness
Drive the achievement of safety goals, maintaining work environments free of near misses, accidents, and OSHA violations. Analyze reported incidents and recommend corrective actions to continuously enhance safety measures
Ensure compliance with all governmental safety regulations through consistent practice and observation, while conducting weekly site visits and maintaining regular communication with ongoing projects
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead in the execution of specific objectives and strategies to maintain an effective safety program that complies with federal, state and local safety regulations
- Perform comprehensive on-site safety assessments for projects as part of ongoing monitoring efforts and oversee the implementation of corrective actions
- Participate in pre-construction and handoff meetings and administer safety incentive programs
- Create and maintain documentation for the Safety Manual, Safety/EEO booklet, Fleet Operations Program, Emergency Management Plan and the Substance Abuse Policy
- Establish and oversee the implementation of the company’s substance abuse policy, including testing programs, provider identification, compliance monitoring with laws and regulations, and provision of rehabilitation assistance to employees
- Develop and deliver safety training programs, including Tool Box Safety Talks, to educate project staff in compliance with Company safety policies
- Enact and uphold the Fleet Operations Policy
- Supply projects with informational materials, signage, posters, personal protective equipment, barriers and such.
- Review accident and incident documentation for completeness and accuracy, ensuring implementation of corrective action measures. Actively investigate accidents resulting in lost time injuries or significant property, liability, or equipment damage, and generate comprehensive investigative reports
- Represent the Company in safety-related hearings (OSHA, etc.) and enforce disciplinary measures for policy violations
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of all regulatory reports, while managing safety documentation, records, and generating reports for management as needed
- Certify thorough marking and protection of all job site electrical hazards to maximize safety measures
- Oversee divisional budgetary matters and compile reports for the President/CEO
- Strategize, staff, and oversee department activities, delegating tasks effectively. Collaboratively set goals, provide guidance, and support professional development for departmental staff.
- Consult with the Director of Human Resources on all employee-related matters
- Work with Insurance Companies and serve as liaison with Medical Care Providers to assist in claims management
- Review and prepare Safety Requirements for job prequalification forms and bidding projects, ensuring compliance and adherence to safety standards.
- Champion the company's vision, values, and goals, effectively communicating and reinforcing them to departmental staff
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent combination of training and related experience
- Minimum 5-10 years construction safety experience
- OSHA30 and/or OSHA500 certification
- Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and Company regulations
- Experienced in the ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to engage effectively in interpersonal interactions.
- Proficient in training and educating others with strong computer skills
- May be responsible for supervising and managing direct reports, i.e., Field Safety Representative
