SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for all aspects of the collection function, including supervising the collection staff, handling problem credits, negotiating OREO and repossessed vehicles. The Asset Recovery Manager is responsible for the effective collection of delinquent accounts and minimizing loss to the Bank.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish goals and lead staff to attainment of goals.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, particularly related to fair debt collection practices.

  • Monitor performance of the Banks’ past due accounts and the effectiveness of the individual collectors.

  • Report results of collection activity on a regular basis to the senior retail lender.

  • Manage the process of repossession/foreclosure and disposition of property.

  • Recommend monthly charge offs to the senior retail lender.

  • Assist the collectors in keeping current with collection practices and training.


COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY:

Each employee should be aware of, and responsible for assuring their work complies with all Federal and State banking laws and regulations and Bank policies and procedures.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in the hiring of new department staff. Responsible for completion of annual reviews, initial corrective action process and the training of staff as well as being available for questions or help with problems or concerns when staff may need assistance.

  • Must have excellent customer service skills

  • Must be extremely accurate and have excellent problem solving abilities

  • Must be proficient in basic accounting skills – must understand debits and credits, bank reconciliations, and the interactions of these to loans


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree or equivalent experience plus five years collections experience. Two years supervisory experience. Customer service, sales or other prior experience dealing directly with customers.


INTERPERSONAL/BEHAVIORAL/COMMUNICATION:

  • Excellent telephone skills with the patience to deal with customers in a tactful manner and ability to stay calm during difficult/tense situations.

  • Organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to negotiate with repossession outlets, attorneys, and realtors in a professional manner.


MATHEMATICAL/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Excellent mathematical and computer related skills, utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as company related software/hardware.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to recognize and solve problems and report them to the appropriate area/department. Ability to make sound decisions based on the situation at hand within authority level.
