We have a client located in Hammond, Indiana looking for an Applications Engineer.

Responsibilities

  Job Summary:

  • Under general supervision, perform on-going maintenance and enhancements to (EMS) Energy Management System related applications, utilizing applications and change-management methodology and architectural standards.
  • Ensure the Energy management computer and associated Workstations, Servers, Network & Databases are capable of performing the functions needed to maintain our electric systems integrity and comply with NERC and Reliability First Corporation policies.
  • Complete and maintain overall application documentation including application design, functionality, architecture, and day-to-day application changes.
  • Formulate and define system scope and objectives for assigned projects, by working with end-users to understand business requirements.
  • Perform on-going maintenance and enhancement to existing applications, as well as new project implementations.
  • Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
  • Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
  • Prepares users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems.
  • Provides information by answering questions and requests.
  • Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Model SCADA, AGC, ICCP, Real-time databases for Electric Energy Management System
  • Build / Modify Single Line diagrams for Electric Operators to monitor and control the bulk electric system.
  • Design, install and maintain database and application software as needed to maintain our Electric Systems integrity and compliance with NERC and Reliability First Corporation policies.
  • Prepare cost estimates and project timelines for completing recommended solutions.   
  • Perform software and database maintenance on EMS Server and application software, including SCADA.
  • Communicate application and project status, identifying potential opportunities or issues. 
  • Evaluate all software changes and updates that are supplied by vendors, before installation.
  • Participate and support change-management process as required. 
  • Develop and maintain application documentation and source code management. 
  • Provide post-implementation support for newly implemented systems. 
  • Provide end-user support for applications. 
  • Develop solid understanding of business area and/or functions for which assigned applications are designed. 
  • Evaluate and recommend technology opportunities; arrange and facilitate vendor demonstrations.
  • Evaluate vendor responses to RFP, RFQ, RFI and support vendor selection process

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated abilities in the area of applications development and support in client-server and/or web-based applications. 
  • General understanding of application maintenance, development, and change management methodologies. 
  • Must be proficient in the use of command line and GUI interfaces for personal computers. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, communicate and solve complex problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Full technical knowledge of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education/Work Experience:

Prefer BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent and two or more years of programming experience using C++, HTML, Java, and ColdFusion etc.  Experience with Oracle and SQL Server

Mental and Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional travel, including air travel.
  • The ability to perform duties effectively under emergency situations.
  • Must be available to participate in weekly 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends, when needed.
