Position Summary 

The Development Manager is responsible for developing and implementing work plans that result in the achievement of council goals and strategies.   Responsible to identify and develop relationships with prospective donors throughout the Lakes and Pines service area for the purpose of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts to ensure sustainability and growth in charitable contributions. The focus of this position is on generating income by developing and maintaining strategic community and regional business collaborations, as well as alliances from corporate and major private funding entities, and managing the GSMWLP Annual Family Partnership campaign.  

 

The Development Manager works collaboratively with regional and functional team(s) to promote the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to support and grow membership to achieve council goals /strategy. Manager is responsible for drafting, overseeing, and administering the approved/assigned portions of the fund development budget.  

 

 

Responsibilities including but not limited to: 

  1. Expand the range of donors for the council and secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and companies by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, 

retaining, and stewarding current and prospective donors to meet annual revenue goals for programs, ongoing operations, capital needs, and other identified projects.  

  1. Engage with individual donors, corporations, foundations, planned giving programs, and major contributors to source and secure philanthropic donations; cultivate ongoing relationships with current and past donors.  

  1. Maintains compliance with approved departmental budgets in compliance with approved guidelines and maintains accurate financial records.  

  1. Participates in the cultivation of foundation program officers and implementation of solicitation strategies. Coordinates and/or participates in site visits of corporate and foundation staff and volunteers in all regions of the council.  

  1. Completes research, writing solicitation letters, grant applications, and submission of assigned funding proposals which reflect current Girl Scout programming and brand, including maintaining a grants calendar to ensure timeliness of grant proposal development and submission. 

  1. Responsible for successful execution of all council special events related to fund development.  

  1. Establish and maintain a presence in identified communities to increase the council’s visibility. 

  1. Directs strategic priorities to ensure department aggressively seeks new funding sources and maintains relationships with current and past donors. 

  1. Ensures the goals for all fundraising activities are met, including but not limited to personal and corporate contributions, member campaigns, grant and foundations, United Way campaigns and planned giving. 

  1. Ensures donor-related communications are timely and accurate to promote the goals and mission of Girl Scouts Lakes and Pines. This includes any assigned donor concerns, requests, and gift administration. 

  1. Assists in planning and implementing fundraising campaigns and works with community volunteers and council staff to meet fundraising campaign initiatives. 

  1. Provides research of prospective donors for specified areas of fund development to meet or exceed fundraising goals. 

  1. Implements activities and special events to increase donor development and stewardship, as assigned by the Director of Development. 

  1. Plays a key role in alumnae engagement initiatives by identifying, tracking, and engaging Girl Scout Alumnae. 

  1. Handles sensitive or confidential donor information, communications, and public relations issues in a professional manner. 

  1. Assists with the drafting and implementation of approved comprehensive Membership and Fund Development strategies to support girl membership growth and retention and to secure funding sufficient to meet all council goals and objectives. 

  1.  Works In partnership with director on financial needs and possible funding sources. Participate in grant writing and reporting as directed and give presentations in support and promotion of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience   

  1. Responsible for drafting, communicating, implementing, and enforcing established fundraising policies, procedures, and practices compliant with all applicable council and GSUSA Charter standards, standards, local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances related to Fund Development 

  1. Drafts and maintains an approved work plan including a process that provides for goal achievement.  

  1. Know and be responsible for all agency policies, guidelines, and procedures; regularly report on individual goals and achievements to the Director of Recruitment and Development. 

  1. Special Projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.  

 

Essential Functions 

 

  • Ability to gather, analyze, record and report data timely and accurately.  

  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment and post-employment screenings including, but not limited to, background check. 

  • Knowledge of basic business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts. 

  • Ability to remain current on fund development techniques, philanthropy trends, and best practices in CRM software.  

  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize current council systems for donor management, finance, and customer relationship management.  

  • Proficiency in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to manage database information, produce reports, and analyze data. 

  • Superior project management skills with the ability to coordinate activities and communications with various stakeholders and tasks to deliver high-quality results in a timely manner by working independently and conceptualizing and executing projects. 

  • Ability to draft, teach, model, follow, maintain, and execute approved goals/strategies. 

  • Ability to always follow and maintain safe working practices. 

  • Ability to frequently operate office equipment including keyboard, copy machine, and multi-line telephone. 

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. 

  • Ability to make decisions by applying independent discretion within the boundaries of the position.  

  • Maintain registration as a member of the Girl Scouts of the USA 

  • Possess and retention of a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.  

  • Ability to provide your own transportation,  

  • Ability to travel to various event and activities, including overnights. 

  • Ability to work various days and hours including weekends and evenings. 

  • Ability to develop appropriate written communication and to verbally present information to large and small groups.  

  • Ability to remain current on fund development techniques and philanthropy. 

  • Ability to represent and model the mission and vision of Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree business or related field and/or equivalent of (2) years fund development experience with a focus on foundation and corporate giving. 

  • A minimum of (2) years proven experience in securing financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations with gifts and/or pledges from current and prospective donors through identification, cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship to meet and/or exceed funding goals. 

  • A Minimum of (1) year of development and execution of funding goals/ strategies. 

  • Knowledge of basic business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts.  

  • High proficiency in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to manage database information, produce reports, and analyze data.  

  • Advanced skills in customer service and a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Racial Justice. 

  •  Excellent judgement with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines, 

  • Proven experience in formal business writing.
