REPORTS TO:              Director of Distribution

 

SUPERVISES:               None                                                 SALARY RANGE: $22.00 - $30/Hour

JOB SUMMARY:          Responsible for all aspects of food and nonfood distribution for The Food Depot programs in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, standards, and program guidelines.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pick up, deliver, load, and unload product; develop daily routes including sites and other program food-related for out-of-town agency deliveries.
  • Deliver to Agencies in and out of Santa Fe
  • Knowledge and ability to work in inventory systems
  • Assist with compliance for all programs.
  • Assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves, or convey orders to staging station or shipping area, including all program orders.
  • Assist at all Mobile Food Pantry Distributions.
  • Fill in at Mobile Food Distributions.
  • Assist in food acquisitions routes, when needed.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships with donors, partner agencies, and volunteers.
  • Sort and store perishable goods in the proper refrigerated and freezer spaces, practicing FIFO.
  • Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins and boxes according to predetermined sequences such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Move and arrange stock as assigned.
  • Complete forms, reports, and logs as required by DOT.
  • Read and understand production schedules, orders, work orders, shipping, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Supervise volunteers, when appropriate.
  • Ensure all stock and inventory items are maintained in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, standards, and program guidelines – execute physical count.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and recording of inventory levels for food and nonfood items.
  • Handle food according to safe food handling practices.
  • Maintain and safely operate all trucks and warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks; operate scales to weigh inventory items.
  • Assist in the maintenance and care of the facility and equipment; assist in the safety and sanitation of facilities and equipment through compliance with The Food Depot guidelines and any applicable local, state, or federal laws or regulations.
  • Observe all local, state, and federal regulations in warehouse operations and vehicle transport.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit; put the success of the team above own interests.
  • Comply with all The Food Depot policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Consistently be at work and on time.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned; assist other departments as requested; may work evenings and weekends, as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Must have a Class A Commercial Driver License.
  • Must have a current DOT medical card.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of The Food Depot.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with coworkers, managers, and customers; ability to effectively communicate problems and issues.
  • Ability to read and comprehend packing slips and orders.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide along with a basic understanding of weights and measures.
  • Commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a daily basis.

 

Employment Requirements

  • Clean Driving Record as defined by DOT and The Food Depot – New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Successful Completion of Forklift Training provided by The Food Depot.
  • Negative Pre-employment Drug Screening.
  • No DWIs within the last 7 years.

                                                         

Physical Environment

  • Employee will spend 50% of the time driving a vehicle or operating equipment (truck, forklift, and other machinery); 30% of time in distribution of food.
  • Employee will spend 20% of time in a warehouse environment.
  • Requires travel to other facilities within service area and within state.
  • Must be able to get into a forklift and operate all of the controls.
  • Employee can be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to load and unload items into and out of the truck.
  • The employee must be able to operate forklift and pallet jacks.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
