The Connecticut Democracy Center (CTDC) seeks a full-time Connecticut’s Kid Governor® State Coordinator who is passionate about inspiring students to make a difference and cultivating their lifelong civic skills. The State Coordinator will ensure the success, growth, and smooth year-round operation of Connecticut’s Kid Governor® and will be responsible for elevating visibility, ensuring equity and access, and deepening student and educator engagement. Working with CTDC’s creative and dynamic team, the Coordinator will cultivate relationships with participants and key audiences; create and lead effective strategies for increasing program participation; mentor the sitting Kid Governor and their Cabinet; develop innovative civics experiences; and plan all cornerstone program components and events.

 

This in-person, non-exempt position requires 40 hours per week. The nature of Connecticut’s Kid Governor® and its variety of audiences require a flexible schedule including at least one Saturday each month, occasional evenings, overtime hours (particularly in October-January), and some holidays. Work will be based at the historic Connecticut’s Old State House in Hartford with travel to schools, meetings, and events throughout the state. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel statewide and occasionally out-of-state are required.

 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree. An advanced degree in education, public history, history, political science, or a related field is a plus. Other qualifications include experience working in a school classroom; commitment to creating equitable educational experiences, materials, and opportunities; the ability to self-manage multiple projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities; being organized, motivated, and intuitive; the ability to network and forge strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders; curiosity about challenges and trends in civics and civic education; the ability to think and act strategically; and excellent communication, networking, and coaching skills.
