Job Title: Quality Engineer

Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for meticulous inspection processes to ensure the quality of incoming raw materials and various components. This role involves utilizing handheld Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), vision inspection systems, as well as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other inspection tools to guarantee the compliance of products with established quality standards. Additionally, the candidate should be able to read and interpret product drawings and possess knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

The candidate needs to be career-minded and display the leadership skills needed to be on the succession plan for the Quality Manager position.

 Responsibilities:

  1. Incoming Inspection:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of raw materials and components using vision inspection systems, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other relevant tools.
  • Identify and document any deviations from established quality standards.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.

2.     Use of Handheld CMM and Inspection Tools:

  • Operate handheld coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) with proficiency to measure and analyze components.
  • Utilize vision inspection systems to assess product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other inspection tools for precise measurements.

3.     Reading and Interpreting Product Drawings:

  • The ability to read and interpret product drawings is crucial to ensure accurate inspection based on design specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to clarify drawing details and specifications.

4.     GD&T Knowledge:

  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to understand and verify product design requirements.
  • Ensure that products meet the specified tolerances and geometric features outlined in GD&T. 

5.     Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of inspection results and communicate the findings to the Quality Manager.
  • Generate inspection reports, documenting deviations and suggesting improvements.
  • Collaborate with other departments to implement quality improvements based on inspection data.

6.     Training and Development:

  • Train colleagues on quality control processes, inspection tools, and interpreting product drawings.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in inspection technologies.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  1. Experience:
  • The candidate should possess proven experience in the incoming inspection of raw materials and components.
  • The candidate should have familiarity with vision inspection systems, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other quality control tools.

·       Previous management or supervisory experience is highly desirable.

2.   Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in using handheld Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and vision inspection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret product drawings.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

3.     Education:

·       Some college education in a related field is preferred.

  • Willingness to train the right individual with a strong aptitude for quality control.

4.     Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

5.   Problem-Solving:

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and address quality issues.
  • Proactive approach to implementing corrective actions.

6.     Leadership Potential:

·       Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and guide team members.

·       A career-minded individual with a desire to grow into a management position within the Quality department.
