Job Overview

As a pivotal member of the quality team, the Quality Engineer will report directly to the Quality Supervisor. This role encompasses the testing and validation of tire manufacturing, curing, and testing machinery. The engineer will also be responsible for integrating new tire manufacturing and curing formulas into the production line. A key aspect of this position is to foster quality excellence and enhancement throughout the production processes and all associated functions within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly assess quality performance, conducting statistical analyses of tire specifications against manufacturing capabilities, while establishing continuous improvement objectives and executing projects aimed at enhancing product quality.
  • Analyze defects in cured tires.
  • Conduct test series and ramp-ups for new rubber compounds in collaboration with research and development specialists.
  • Interpret and communicate test outcomes, maintaining consistent dialogue with the tire development team.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of quality data across all relevant information systems.
  • Maintain consistency in machinery and tire manufacturing recipes.
  • Inspect machinery and equipment to guarantee optimal operational performance and utilization.
  • Develop and uphold detailed standards for production materials and processes, guided by control plans and procedures.
  • Address quality issues by drafting corrective actions, engaging with customers, and collaborating within a core team to resolve concerns promptly.
  • Review internal production issues by analyzing rejects and working within a core team to address these challenges swiftly.
  • Notify component engineers of any concerns and review corrective actions for resolution.
  • Prepare and revise control plans, FMEA, flow charts, and work instructions to ensure compliance with product, process, and specification standards.
  • Utilize hand measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers effectively.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance process capabilities and minimize variation in mixed stock.
  • Exemplify the mission and values of the organization through daily actions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Proficient in root cause analysis and statistical problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills utilizing established methodologies, including 8-D, 5-WHY, and Ishikawa.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) and Minitab.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise.
  • Good to excellent laboratory and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capacity to work independently and manage pressure effectively.
  • Commitment to high standards, ethical conduct, and a mindset focused on continuous improvement.
  • Strong computer skills, including basic knowledge of manufacturing applications.
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Certification as a Quality Engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle systems is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% as required.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States is mandatory.
  • This position does not offer relocation assistance.

  • Work is conducted in both office and manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to varying indoor conditions and noise levels.
