Job Summary

Under general direction of the Quality and Compliance Manager, the Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for assuring product and process quality, quality compliance, and achievement of defined reliability requirements. The QE will champion continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives. The QE will coordinate with other NDC facilities quality assurance needs to establish a uniform NDC quality program. The QE will initiate and facilitate continuous improvement and Lean initiatives across the organization. Critical features of this job are described under the headings below. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer
  • Design, implement and document procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection
  • Establish and implement key quality metrics (COPQ, FPY) for monitoring system effectiveness and to enable managers to make sound product quality decisions
  • Perform root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements
  • Establish collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality
  • Develop quality planning methods for all product lines
  • Develop process certification standards and assist in process certification
  • Responsible for overseeing failure analysis, documenting failure analysis, and recommending corrective action for NCMR/Customer complaints in, service, production and receiving inspections and post sales issues
  • Responsible for supporting new product development for manufacturing/quality to resolve technical issues, write quality plans and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Responsible for quality in Non-Conformance Materials Review to verify discrepancy and adequacy of response to corrective action request
  • Reviews with Manufacturing Engineer and approves test and Verification and Validation documents and Change Orders for new designs and design changes
  • Performs supplier audit, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Performs Hazard Analysis, Risk analysis, Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis
  • Assist in Receiving Inspection when required
  • Validation of tooling, equipment, and processes
  • Analyzes process capability data and other quality metrics in order to propose specification or process changes to Engineering
  • Oversees calibration and testing programs
  • Reports to management on quality issues, trends, and losses
  • Participates in internal and external quality audits
  • Leads and facilitates Kaizen and other Lean six sigma events as prioritized by management


Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • 5+ years experience in a Quality role in a medium size or larger manufacturing ISO 9001 certified environment
  • Experienced in designing and implementing quality systems
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings or blueprints
  • Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, equipment, techniques, and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Experience with conducting audit to ISO9001:2015 requirements, including ability to write audit reports
  • Strong computer skills including quality control applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams
