Position Description

This role is responsible for accounting and bookkeeping within the enterprise's construction division. Primary responsibilities include (1) ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, month-end reporting, variance reporting, invoice coding, and reconciliations, and (2) assisting the construction team. This post reports to the Controller.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist construction teams in accurately tracking project expenses for both new and current projects.
  • Reconciles bank accounts by entering transfers, electronic payments, bank fees, and debt payments.
  • Prepares and evaluates project work in progress reports.
  • Monitors the progress of projects to guarantee correct outcomes.
  • Assists the Billing Specialist in completing the monthly invoice for the projects with the help of project managers.
  • Prepares financial statements and ensures correct accounting for each department.
  • Monitors client receivable ledgers to detect late accounts. Collaborates with personnel to resolve issues.
  • Examines the details of the General Ledger to ensure that cost and income entries are properly posted. Makes any changes.
  • Maintains fixed asset records, assigns usable life, and follows correct bookkeeping and taxation processes.
  • Reconciles AR and AP month-end information with the general ledger. Investigates discrepancies and makes adjustments.
  • Analyzes and analyzes financial data to historical and industry benchmarks.
  • Works with staff on all elements of new and ongoing initiatives, including financial support.
  • Attend conferences and education programs to stay up to date on financial rules, regulations, and legislation that influence the firm.
  • Creates monthly accounting entries for prepaids, depreciation & amortization, and interest expenditure.

Position Requirements

  • Four-year Degree in Accounting, Finance, or another related field. Will consider appropriate equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedure.
  • Advanced Excel skills, ability to grasp accounting systems and software. Experience with project-based accounting software preferred.
  • Ability to read, compare, and interpret figures and data. Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to present complex financial information in a clear, accessible way.
