Syracuse, New York, United States The Hayner Hoyt Corporation Full time
Job Overview

This role includes eligibility for an annual bonus of up to 15% of base salary in addition to the annual salary.

At The Hayner Hoyt Corporation, we are not just constructing buildings; we are fostering careers. For 17 consecutive years, we have been recognized as one of the Best Companies to Work For in New York State, as nominated by our employees.

We are a well-established commercial construction firm in Central NY, and our 50+ years of success can be attributed to our dedicated workforce. Our core values are not mere statements; they are reflected in our actions. We strive for excellence and take responsibility for our work; if something is amiss, we rectify it. This commitment is why 99% of our clients choose to rehire or recommend us.

This position entails direct on-site oversight and comprehensive management of commercial construction projects. The selected candidate will regularly engage with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and company-assigned project personnel to ensure that all projects adhere to contractual obligations while surpassing company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the initial project timeline and consistently monitor/update it on at least a bi-weekly basis, accommodating project changes and/or delays. Identify any schedule setbacks and address them independently or with the Project Manager's assistance.
  • Maintain regular and professional communication with all project team members, including clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and staff, to keep them informed of pertinent project developments.
  • Schedule and oversee Hayner Hoyt craft personnel for self-performed tasks. Assign duties, track productivity, and optimize resources for self-performed work, which may include training the craft team on assigned tasks when necessary.
  • Source and select suppliers for necessary materials, equipment, and project supplies based on their capabilities, scheduling needs, and cost considerations. Follow up with suppliers to ensure all required materials are available to meet project demands.
  • Confirm on-site schedules and coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other vendors to ensure they provide all necessary materials and that their work meets project and company standards.
  • Review the construction budget and manage the project effectively to complete it on or under budget.
  • Ensure that all personnel and subcontractors on-site adhere to safety protocols, complying with Hayner Hoyt and OSHA guidelines. Develop a project-specific safety plan and review subcontractor safety plans for their respective scopes of work.
  • Conduct project-related meetings, including pre-construction conferences with subcontractors and suppliers, subcontractor meetings, and various forms of written correspondence.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and orderly field office. Create and/or maintain essential project documentation, including daily reports, weekly reports, safety checklists, safety meetings, OSHA postings, time records of assigned staff, purchase orders, meeting minutes, as-built drawings, requests for information, shop drawings, submittals, test reports, and any other necessary project documentation.
  • Perform regular job site inspections to identify potential issues such as safety concerns, subpar work quality, material availability, etc. Instruct staff and comply with all client requirements for site access, material staging, cleanliness, etc.
  • Engage in hands-on field work as necessary to meet project or scheduling requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A 2 or 4-year degree in construction technology, construction management, operations management, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of hands-on commercial construction experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Prior experience with Lean Construction Processes is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work with and provide direct supervision to vendors, suppliers, and staff to fulfill contractual obligations.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • A valid NY State driver's license is required at the time of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, or overnight travel.

We offer a collaborative environment focused on career and professional development, along with a competitive salary and year-end bonus. Our comprehensive benefits package includes low-cost health, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance, a 401(K) savings plan with company match, generous paid time off, and holidays.

We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment, prohibiting discrimination and harassment of any kind based on race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
