Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Nutrition Services Director plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the Nutrition Service Department for multiple hospitals, departments, and/or maintains the role of Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Service Manager. The position implements and supports policies and procedures to provide administrative direction for cafeteria management, food preparation, distribution, service, budgeting, purchasing, sanitation standards, safety practices, staffing and staffing development and all other areas/departments of direct supervision and management. In addition, this position will provide administrative direction for therapeutic diets and assures that standard of care is met in accordance with all associate regulatory agencies and the administrative policies of the hospital. This position is responsible for helping to create an environment and culture that enables the department to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

• Manages departmental budget(s) as it relates to position(s).

• Performs and documents all purchasing, receiving and inventory control of food and supplies.

• Maintains sanitation and proper temperatures to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.

• Maintains correct food handling techniques to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.

• Determines quality (taste/temperature/appearance), quantity, and portion size of food required.

• Defines job duties for nutrition services employees and interviews applicants for employment.

• Evaluates employees on a regular basis according to prescribed guidelines.

• Performs any and all duties in the department(s), if applicable, as required.

• Checks routine maintenance and requests work orders, as necessary.

• Ensures adequate staffing and management of the department to support metrics of staffing models.

• Ensures production for both patient meals and cafeteria line are properly coordinated.

• Ensures proper handling of cash/tickets and cash/ticket reports.

• Coordinates dietetic services with other departments.

• Purchases food; assists with and assigns duties for special needs or special occasions.

• Ensures in-service education meetings are held and courses are completed as required by company.

• Ensures maintenance and availability of all regulatory manuals within the department.

• Supports the Company TeamWorks initiatives.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Completes mandatory training and courses required by completion date.

Qualifications

License or Certification:

• Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Academy of Nutrition or Executive Chef required.

• Current member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Bachelor's degree program in Dietetics, Culinary Arts or related field preferred.
  • Ten plus years healthcare food service experience, or 5 plus years of healthcare management experience required.
  • Three to five years of healthcare clinical nutrition, or executive chef experience required.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of nutrition and dietetics, administration and operation of hospital food services.
  • Must have knowledge of all H.A.C.C.P. guidelines.
