PRN, Clinical Nutrition

This role involves delivering safe and effective family-centered nutritional care to patients ranging from newborns to adults with diverse medical conditions. The specialist will evaluate diagnoses and formulate nutritional care strategies in accordance with established dietetic standards and regulations. This position serves as a resource for colleagues, aiding in problem resolution, engaging in shared governance, and contributing to evidence-based practices while developing clinical leadership capabilities in designated areas. The role typically operates independently and addresses complex cases, contributing to various assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assess diagnoses and create as well as implement nutritional care plans utilizing established dietetic standards.

2. Conduct nutritional evaluations and collaborate with the medical team to ensure optimal nutritional care for patients.

3. Identify nutrition-related challenges and seek assistance or referrals for complex issues. Issue therapeutic diet orders within the scope of practice.

4. Monitor and track patients' progress.

5. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and medical staff, providing relevant information (issues, service requests, suggestions for improvement, etc.) to management.

6. Educate and guide patients, families, caregivers, and staff on dietary practices, feeding regimens, or other nutritional information prior to discharge or during outpatient consultations.

7. Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary medical team. Work with nutritional services to ensure the availability of necessary food items and procure formulas from appropriate sources. Mentor dietetic interns and conduct peer reviews of nutritional assessments and diet orders.

8. Document all relevant nutritional information in patients' medical records in accordance with policy. Record daily charges for patients seen, procedures performed, and time allocated to each activity.

9. Participate in nutritional case studies, departmental in-services, and other training opportunities, documenting continuing education credits in CDR format.

10. Actively engage in Medical Team rounds.

11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
