Job Purpose/ Summary:

Completes projects efficiently and effectively by designing, configuring, implementing, and documenting network equipment according to Single Digits, Inc.’s (SDI’s) network standards to maximize customers’ networks and applications throughputs and performances.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Work with other engineers and other service team members to improve the network design, configuration, and implementation processes.
  • Manage and update the High-Speed Internet Access (HSIA) related installation documentation, providing the as-built necessary to effectively support the customers HSIA equipment, pre- and post-installation. This documentation includes the network drawing prepared in industry standard applications, network equipment port maps, and trouble ticket updates on the Business Access Portal (BAP).
  • Lead onsite Single Digits’ field technicians and/or subcontractors, as required, to ensure installations are completed on schedule and according to Single Digits’ standards and Statement of Work (SOW) to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Test and Quality Assurance (QA) implemented networks to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Survey properties for the installation of a HSIA Wireless networks, including, but not limited to, signal strength testing, evaluating cabling requirements, labor requirements, equipment needs, physical site needs, etc.
  • Stay current on new technologies and changes in the industry.
  • Be responsive to internal changes in standards, solutions, and deployment processes.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of tools and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy in deployments.
  • Audit inbound design specifications, identifying technical risks and making recommendations to mitigate or resolve any issues.
  • Assist with execution of conference, break-fix, and Network Operations Center (NOC) tasks and projects as requested.
  • All other assigned duties and responsibilities not otherwise listed above.
Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in computer science, networking, or related field or equivalent combination of formal education and work experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience to include:
  • Expert network administration and support skills. Fluent understanding of large network implementations, network protocols, and network topologies.
  • Experience in complex, structured cabling jobs that include interior/exterior installations and terminating and testing Cat5/Cat6 and Fiber Optic cabling.
  • Experience with configuring and installing Routers, Firewalls, Servers, Layer2/3 Ethernet Switches, and Wireless Access Points in environments of varying complexity.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Proven success troubleshooting complex problems in various network manufacturer equipment types.

Licenses, Certifications, and Screenings:

  • CCNA strongly preferred.
  • Upon hire, must pass background screen to include employment history, college education, and license/certification verifications, and criminal check.

Knowledge:

  • Experience with computers and software programs such as email, Word, Excel, Visio, AutoCAD, and other Industry recognized applications.
  • Experience with WIFI Survey and Predictive Analysis Software and tools such as Air Magnet and/or Ekahau Site Survey, and Fluke WIFI Testers are a plus.
  • Basic IP Telephony and Network Monitoring Tools knowledge is a plus.

Personal Attributes:

  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Great prioritization skills and the ability to multi-task, while working under tight time constraints.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing, but occasionally requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Frequent use of computer/keyboard/mouse required.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel as requested locally and to customer sites which may require overnight stays.
  • Willingness to work off-hours shift from normal business hours as needed to support implementations.
  • Employees must be able to lift/move up to 75 pounds.
  • Employees must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
