Why Choose MITRE?

At MITRE, we believe in balancing impactful work with a rewarding life. Our commitment is to address our nation's most pressing challenges while ensuring the well-being of our employees.

As a not-for-profit organization, MITRE operates without commercial conflicts, focusing solely on the public interest. Our R&D centers contribute significantly across various sectors, including cybersecurity, healthcare, aviation, defense, and enterprise transformation.

We are dedicated to making a positive difference every day, striving for a safer, healthier, and more secure world. Our workplace embodies our core values, offering competitive benefits, outstanding professional development opportunities, and a culture that champions diversity, inclusion, flexibility, collaboration, and career advancement.

Department Overview:

The Software Engineering Innovation Center at MITRE is a premier resource dedicated to software engineering. We focus on modernizing legacy systems, prototyping solutions for unmet mission needs, and delivering advanced functionalities that push the boundaries of technology.

Our R&D centers leverage our expertise to tackle today's multifaceted technology challenges in areas such as agile development, mobile computing, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, human-machine collaboration, user experience, virtual reality, robotics, artificial intelligence, and decentralization.

The Software Solutions and Technology department within the SEIC is committed to delivering robust software solutions that support local, national, and global missions.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will utilize your hands-on expertise in designing, securing, architecting, networking, governing, and automating cloud platforms. You will lead and shape cloud projects, advising on large-scale cloud adoption and architecting secure systems in the cloud.

Your role will often involve collaboration with government sponsors to create a lasting impact across various fields, including cybersecurity, healthcare, aviation, defense, and enterprise transformation.

In this position, you can expect to:

  • Lead the development of a scalable and resilient cloud environment that enables secure interactions with your team's solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Information Security team to establish and meet multi-cloud security standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between MITRE and the sponsor, fostering a trusted advisor relationship.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce redundancy by sharing your expertise with other MITRE projects focused on cross-domain, multi-cloud, or hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Write code to automate the provisioning of cloud resources in a multi-cloud environment.

Basic Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience. Candidates should be prepared to contribute immediately at this level.

At least 3 years of experience in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, C#, Go, etc., is required.

Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of leadership experience in cloud projects, including planning, organizing, staffing, and executing development projects with a team of at least 3 members, utilizing Agile DevSecOps methodologies.

Experience in areas such as data, AI, cybersecurity, Agile, DevSecOps, and related cloud technologies is essential.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, demonstrated through code, documentation, proposals, and presentations.

Ability to obtain a US Government issued security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Some sponsors may require a higher level of trust to work with their data, so a pre-existing Secret or Top-Secret clearance is preferred.

Additional skills of interest may include:

  • Experience securing systems to compliance standards (e.g., NIST).
  • Familiarity with cloud automation tools, such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD automated build and deployment processes.
  • Experience administering systems, networks, or databases.
  • Knowledge of modern systems engineering methods.
  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Experience with container-based solutions and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.

Work Location Type:
