Our client is seeking a forward-looking, proactive, and collaborative Student Intern in Washington DC for an onsite position.


REQUIREMENT: 
A full-time student enrolled in an HBCU, PBI, or MI, have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a U.S. Citizen, and be willing to work in-person onsite in D.C.

 POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will be located across various offices within the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) and is responsible for providing administrative, office, and various support to all divisions of the agency.


This position work is primarily to provide familiarity with the practice of applying the concepts, principles, practices, and procedures of business management programs.


The incumbent receives tailored instruction, guidance, training, and supervision designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for the successful performance of their duties. The incumbent will receive on-the-job training that is intended to enhance the individual's technical competencies. Work assignments are made commensurate with the college curriculum.

  • The assigned tasks require close coordination with the supervisor, colleagues, and others.
  • In a developmental capacity, the incumbent researches and develops basic data and information, which are the basis for decisions made by the supervisor and senior personnel and affect programs, missions, and functions. Assigned tasks are to increase the employee’s knowledge and functional program analysis and provide a general familiarity with governing policies, procedures, and regulations. Receives intensive on-the-job training in selected assignments to provide experience in applying concepts, principles, practices, and procedures.
  • The work involves different and unrelated processes and methods. The employees decide what needs to do by analysis of the subject or issues involved in each assignment and then select a course of action from processes, methods, and procedures.
  • The position requires knowledge of loan examining and/or servicing principles, theories, methods, and techniques as they apply to the investigation, analysis, and evaluation of financial factors and credit risks; knowledge of methods, techniques, guidelines, regulations, precedents, and procedures of management and program analysis to perform basic tasks.
  • The position also requires the ability to gather basic information, recommend correction of simple problems, extract data from prescribed sources, prepare
  • reports on program and management issues/findings, and knowledge of the organization’s programs, operations, rules, and processes.


LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The supervisor and/or senior specialist assigns by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines. Assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. The PD# 8309 employee works independently to plan and carry out steps for completing assignments in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices. Completed work is evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. Methods used in arriving at the results are not reviewed in detail.


Employees use a number of guidelines directly applicable to the assignment. Guidelines prescribe established procedures and techniques and provide clear precedents. Uses judgment in selecting and applying the most appropriate guidelines and references available, decides on the appropriateness of minor deviations within existing guidelines, and refers to the supervisor in situations where existing guidelines cannot be applied or require significant deviations.


Contacts are primarily with employees of the immediate work unit but may involve personnel in related units, customers, and serviced activities; to obtain, provide, and exchange information regarding assignments.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Performs selected tasks and phases that perform work pertaining to business and trade practices which may involve the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information; the establishment and maintenance of contacts with industry and commerce; and the evaluation of products, services, or property.
  • Working under the guidance of and in close association with senior personnel, performs a variety of work assignments consisting of established, specific, and related tasks that have been selected to orient the employee in the practical application of basic principles, concepts, and techniques of the occupational field.
  • Assignments are selected on the basis of their progressive training value for the individual.
  • Attends training classes and activities as directed. Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Studies EXIM requirements for the projects and researches and studies the current body of precedents and technical knowledge. Receives specific information and explanations on projects, e.g., PD# 8309 specifications and basic steps and tasks to be performed.
  • Performs segments of the project work as delegated by senior personnel, continually coordinating with the senior personnel.
  • Analyzes information or data gleaned from project results, documents project findings and prepares reports of the findings.
  • Searches technical literature, reports, and other reference material to locate the information requested by senior personnel.
  • Assists in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives.
  • Assists senior personnel in determining the validity, feasibility, achievability, and efficiency of special studies, projects, and initiatives and participates in planning the studies, projects, and initiatives.
  • Attends meetings to observe interactions and understand working relationships with customers, specialists, and other organizational points of contact.
  • Assists in the collection and analysis of information and data, the documentation of findings, and the development of reports.
  • Participates in evaluating project results and makes recommendations for improvement in study and project procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum GPA: 3.0

Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an HBCU, College, or University.
