The Office of the Secretary of Transportation is seeking to utilize Direct Hire Authority to fill roles for Information Technology (IT) Specialist focusing on Information Security (INFOSEC). This opportunity serves as a repository for applications, with candidates potentially referred to selecting officials periodically.
Key Responsibilities:
As an IT Specialist, your duties will encompass:
- GS-12 Responsibilities: Provide support to DOT management regarding information systems security programs, policy development, and IT continuity planning. Assist in integrating information security services and technologies to achieve departmental IT security objectives.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to guarantee the reliability and accessibility of information systems while preventing unauthorized access to networks and data.
- Conduct comprehensive risk and vulnerability assessments of both planned and existing information systems to pinpoint vulnerabilities and protection requirements.
GS-13 Responsibilities:
In this capacity, you will:
- Assist in the formulation and execution of information systems security plans and procedures, ensuring that training and documentation are available to users.
- Provide strategic advice to senior management on information systems security programs and assist in integrating security services to meet departmental goals.
- Evaluate and enhance policies to ensure the reliability and accessibility of information systems.
GS-14 Responsibilities:
At this level, your role will include:
- Advising senior management on strategic development of information systems security programs and IT continuity planning.
- Overseeing the creation and enforcement of security policies and conducting evaluations, audits, and reviews of systems security.
- Leading initiatives to promote awareness of security issues and ensuring compliance with established security principles.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a motivated IT professional with substantial experience in Information Security (INFOSEC).
Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet specialized experience qualifications. A government-issued travel card will be required for official business travel. A probationary period may be necessary for some applicants.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge in IT security, including:
- Experience in developing and coordinating IT activities to ensure the protection and restoration of IT systems.
- Ability to analyze compliance requirements and provide technical advice on IT security issues.
- Proficiency in preparing reports and briefings related to IT security and maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of systems.
Your qualifications will be assessed based on your knowledge, skills, and abilities in areas such as attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving.
