Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSCOPE AND PURPOSE:

The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing the implementation of the Cooperative Development Foundation (CDF) strategic goals, managing CDF’s assets and investments including CDF’s portfolio of funds, overseeing program activities, identifying and securing new sources of funds, and helping to position CDF as a leader in cooperative development that helps drive an inclusive and equitable economy. The successful candidate would also serve as a Senior Policy Advisor to the President and CEO of NCBA CLUSA.

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Advances CDF’s mission, objectives and goals by providing strong and effective leadership to the CDF team, and establishes expectations for acceptable levels of performance for the organization and methods for measuring such performance.
  • Collaborates with the Board of Directors to develop the strategic plan and vision to guide CDF to continuously advance cooperative development opportunities, improve operations and lead fundraising efforts.
  • Governs all financial facets of CDF including budgets, assets and investments ensuring compliance with legal reporting requirements and applicable state registrations for fundraising.
  • Monitors CDF operations and ensures employees and business/financial practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Identifies and works to mitigate any operational or legal risks.
  • Implements strategies and programs to elevate awareness and public policy initiatives that promote and support cooperative development with a focus on using the cooperative model to support a more inclusive and equitable society.
  • Represents the organization at public policy, cooperative community, and the broader inclusive economy forums to raise awareness of and to seek out opportunities for partnerships and collaborations that advance cooperative development and collaborations and CDF’s role as a player in this arena.
  • Conducts outreach to and inclusion of marginalized or minoritized groups and individuals, and emerging cooperative and inclusive economy leaders in all facets of the organization.
  • Works with the President and CEO of NCBA CLUSA by leading joint initiatives on domestic cooperative development and advising on cooperative development policy.
  • Helps CDF and NCBA CLUSA ensure their governance, programs and workplace
  • constantly strives toward better diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and a sense of belonging for all.

Other Job Duties

  • Serves as an ex-officio member of each of the boards of trustees of CDF’s named funds.
  • Serves on the NCBA CLUSA Senior Leadership Team and works with the President and CEO in leading and coordinating the efforts of NCBA CLUSA.
  • Travel (10% to 25%) and speaking engagements to support CDF’s mission and expand scope and breadth of supporters, funders and engaged participants across all CDF work streams.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ten or more years of work experience in cooperative development or a related community empowerment field, administration and management, with at least 2- 5 years at a senior management level.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non- profit/voluntary organizations.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and/or other frontline organizations that serve communities.
  • Strong communications, writing, editing and proofreading skills, including experience in overseeing publishing of projects, and an ability to effectively present concepts verbally to a broad array of audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and partner-building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong experience in financial and project management.
  • Experience in managing and supervising a small team, including managing the successful execution and management of all donor-funded projects.
  • Passionate about work at the intersection of cooperative development, building an inclusive and equitable economy, and advancing approaches to non- extractive community empowerment.
  • Commitment to positive change in the working culture and taking action-oriented steps toward better diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
  • Technologically proficient, including in Microsoft Office Suite, and appreciative of the value and need for digital platforms and other opportunities that advance the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
