The 401(K) Account Executive is responsible for establishing and managing relationships within the Retirement Division of Business Benefits Group. This position plays a crucial role in building and maintaining relationships, promoting our services, and providing exceptional support to clients in managing their retirement plans.  

Essential Functions/Duties

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
 
  • Manage relationships with current and future clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive vendor proposals and spreadsheets to present to prospective clients, highlighting the advantages of our services.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, covering plan mechanics, provisions, and addressing any potential issues that may arise.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for any and all inquiries regarding proposals, spreadsheets, plan mechanics, and participants needs.
  • Schedule and conduct 401(K) plan reviews to assess and enhance the effectiveness of existing plans.
  • Regularly reach out to clients and prospects to check in, gather feedback, and schedule introductory calls with advisors.
  • Research and gather data on prospective companies, including retrieving company 5500 forms as needed.
  • Update and maintain contact information for both vendors and clients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Build and distribute a weekly newsletter to new and existing clients. Research and update monthly Assets Under Management (AUM) figures.
  • Build Participant Financial Planning Illustrations and review Retirement Plan overall investment performance.
  • Schedule and conduct annual plan reviews to assess and adjust retirement plans, as necessary.

Required Skills and Abilities
 
  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of 401(K) retirement plan types and regulations, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and ERISA provisions.
  • Provide empathetic and supportive assistance to clients and employees by being responsive to client needs and proactively seeking opportunities to enhance the client experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage daily responsibilities effectively.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong client relationships, understanding clients’ unique needs, and providing customized retirement solutions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, combined with a persistent approach to achieving successful resolutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information clearly and transparently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with in a team environment, sharing insights and contributing to collective success.
  • Proficiency in using software systems, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, Microsoft Office Suite, and other tools used for client management and communication.
  • Commitment to staying updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and client information.

Education and Experience

Required:
  • 2 or more years of experience in retirement plan management.
  • Associate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a similar field.
  • Virginia Life and Health Insurance License
  • Series 6 and Series 63 Professional Licenses

Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a similar field.
  • Certified Financial Planner Certification, or in the process of obtaining CFP certification.
  • Previous experience in promoting and selling services effectively.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The 401(K) Account Executive operates within a professional office environment. The work environment is characterized by a collaborative and client-focused atmosphere, fostering teamwork and open communication. The work setting is equipped with modern office equipment, technology, and software necessary to perform job responsibilities effectively. The noise level in the office environment is low to moderate.

The 401(K) Account Executive may occasionally need to adapt to changing work demands, such as handling urgent client requests, participating in team meetings, or assisting colleagues during peak periods.

While the role primarily involves office-based tasks, the 401(K) Account Executive should be prepared to engage in a variety of activities that require physical effort and mobility:
 
  • Sitting: A significant portion of the workday involves sitting at a desk while using a computer, handling paperwork, and communicating with clients and co-workers.
  • Standing and Walking: Some tasks, such as attending meetings, interacting with colleagues, and moving within the office space, may involve standing and walking.
  • Typing and Writing: This position requires frequent typing, data entry, and documentation.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally, the 401(K) Account Executive may need to lift and carry files, documents, and office supplies, generally weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Telephone and Communication: This position involves significant telephone communication with clients, carriers, and team members, requiring clear and effective verbal communication.
  • Visual and Auditory Abilities: The ability to read documents, analyze data, and view computer screens for extended periods is necessary. Good auditory skills are essential for effective communication via telephone and in-person conversations.
  • Multitasking and Time Management: This position often involves managing multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritizing time effectively to meet client needs and deadlines.
