Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition, the Nutrition Staff prepares quality meals for all children enrolled in the Center. Each meal must meet the requirements established by the Child Care Food Program Department of the California Department of Education, and the California Uniform Retail Food Facilities Law. The Cook will follow the guidelines of the Cal OSHA (SB 198) Plan in the hygienic, safe, and efficient preparation of meals.


This position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and may require excess hours. This position requires traveling to centers as needed and is expected to perform functions and duties under the guidance of Creative Child Care, Inc.'s core values. The Program Director of Family Services administers instructional program standards and requirements. This position requires daily use of a copier, telephone, computer, and general office equipment over 20 pounds. The incumbent must be committed to maintaining a working environment free from discrimination and sexual harassment. This position requires regular, consistent, predictable attendance, good working habits, and adherence to all agency policies and procedures.

Compensation:

$20 - $22 per hour DOE

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare nutritious menus for breakfast, lunch, and snacks established
  • by the Child Care Food Program of the California Department of Education.
  • Order appropriate food supplies to ensure the best price/highest quality.
  • Prepare set up and serves meals in a timely and efficient manner
  • Submit completed food orders to the Nutrition Director in a timely manner (weekly).
  • Demonstrate efficient use of time and materials to eliminate the needless waste of food, and FIFO in all products.
  • Center kitchen is maintained to comply with the environmental health guidelines to ensure a sanitary and safe environment.
Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Level I:  High School Diploma. 18 years of age or work permit required. Food Handlers Certification. Five (5) years of experience of increasingly responsible experience in commercial and industrial food preparation and service, including food service supervisory or management experience with some responsibility for financial operations. Meet State and Federal requirements. Certification as a Registered Dietician- preferred, but not required.
  •  Level II: Minimum AA/AS Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in restaurant management/food service, business administration, or related field. Certification as a Registered Dietician- preferred, but not required. Food Handlers Certification.
