Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition, the Kitchen Assistant will assist the Director of Nutrition in preparing quality meals for all children serviced through the Central Kitchen with Infant programs. Each meal must meet the requirements established by the Child Care Food Program of the California Department of Education and the California Uniform Retail Food Facilities Law. The Kitchen Assistant will follow the guidelines of the Cal OSHA (SB 198) Plan in the safe, hygienic, and efficient preparation of meals.


This position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and may require excess hours. This position requires traveling to centers as needed and is expected to perform functions and duties under the guidance of Creative Child Care, Inc.'s core values. The Program Director of Family Services administers instructional program standards and requirements.


This position requires daily use of a copier, telephone, computer, and general office equipment, as needed. This position may require a handcart to transport documents and equipment over 20 pounds (i.e., Laptop, computer, projector, reference manuals, solicitation documents). The incumbent must be committed to maintaining a working environment free from discrimination and sexual harassment. This position requires regular, consistent, predictable attendance, good working habits, and adherence to all agency policies and procedures. 

Compensation:

$18.25 - $19.75 per hour DOE

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Able to set up and prepare/deliver meals in the absence of the Director of Nutrition.
  • Able to work independently and efficiently to produce the meals according to the needs of the Center.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally/Written) in English (other language as appropriate) with staff and children in an effective manner.
  • Assist in preparation/set-up and serving of quality meals for classrooms and/or Transport in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assist the Director of Nutrition to keep food storage areas, food preparation, and food service.

  • Wash, Rinse, and Sanitize dishes (three-sink hand system or automatic dishwasher).

  • Demonstrate efficient use of time and materials to eliminate the needless waste of food.
  • Assist the Cook in ensuring the Central Kitchen is maintained to comply with the Environmental Health guidelines to ensure a sanitary and safe environment.

  • Perform other related duties to fulfill Creative Child Care, Inc.'s mission, goals, and objectives. Additional responsibilities may include assisting where needed within the team/unit, which may consist of special assignments.
Qualifications:

Level I:  

  • High School Diploma.
  • 18 years of age or work permit required.
  • Food handler certification is required.

 

Level II:

  • Minimum AA/AS Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in restaurant management/food service, business administration, or related field.
  • Food handler certification is required.
