Principal Scientist

The Principal Scientist will work alongside a dynamic, fast-paced engineering team to conceive, develop, test and debug novel catheter-based technologies to treat vascular diseases. This position is in the electrical/systems group, and the primary role as a principal scientist is to perform research and scientific thinking to the early and mid-stage development of products to ensure products and experiments are developed and performed on a solid scientific basis.
This includes:
- Reading, understanding, and conveying information from current scientific journal articles to the team
- Obtaining a deep understanding of clinical needs
- Identifying areas of research required to ensure the fundamental principles on which product development is based are valid
- Performing well-designed experiments to confirm proof-of-concept design decisions
- Analyzing data to obtain actionable outcomes for design iterations
- Designing algorithms to increase product functionality and reliability
- Brainstorming with the team on creative solutions to engineering problems Writing Intellectual Property disclosures
- Working with hardware, software, and mechanical engineers to help design and debug systems
- Developing R&D software tools as required
- Reviewing system requirements
- Helping to perform system testing as necessary
- Understanding the electrical, software, and mechanical aspects of the system
- Writing and presenting technical reports and research findings to the team and management
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in Electrical Engineering or similar technical field
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience
- Research at the university level, with exposure to publications
- Experience in medical device start-ups is a plus.
- Experience with embedded C code and MATLAB
- Solid understanding of circuits and hardware
- Algorithm development
- Ability to work in the US
