We employ data science, genomics, synthetic biology, and automation to uncover potent, evolutionarily optimized small molecules and their corresponding targets from fungal genomes, applying medicinal chemistry as necessary to refine these compounds into transformative treatments.

We are looking to enhance our medicinal chemistry team with a position at the Principal Scientist level. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the natural products chemistry and biology teams to initiate new drug discovery projects. This presents a unique opportunity to act as a project leader from the outset through to investigational new drug (IND) submission. You will guide a team of medicinal chemists, collectively designing and synthesizing optimized candidates suitable for human clinical trials. Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing new drug candidates and their synthetic pathways
  • Overseeing chemistry teams, both internal and external
  • Leading a skilled medicinal chemistry team with direct reports
  • Acting as a project lead for drug discovery initiatives
  • Collaborating across functions to progress Hexagon Bio's pipeline

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry with over 7 years of experience in an industrial medicinal chemistry environment
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage projects
  • Demonstrated success in advancing scientific projects
  • Willingness to work in a laboratory setting

The salary range is determined by the level of Scientist hired and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across California locations. Individual compensation is influenced by work location and other factors, including skills, experience, and education.
