Position Summary:

The Head of Digital Manufacturing is responsible for the delivery of Digital Manufacturing capabilities at every level of the Global Manufacturing network. The leader will secure seamless flow of contextualized data from the device & control levels, all the way to the top of the Enterprise. The role will facilitate a connected experience across our factory floors to predict and optimize operations, while providing real-time insights to our global workforce.

The Head of Digital Manufacturing will lead the transformation and digitalization of Manufacturing processes globally. This role involves strategic planning, execution of digital initiatives, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and compliance in Manufacturing. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing, Opex, ZTD, GMT, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain to drive innovation and embed resisliancy into operations. This role also is responsible for developing and implementing automation strategies at the sites, ensuring reliable and efficient operations in full compliance with GMP and EHS regulations. This includes process and equipment automation, building management systems, monitoring systems and robotics.

Position Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • In partnership with ZTD (Zoetis Tech & Digital), GMT (Global Manufacturing Technology), Global Engineering (GE) and other functions, lead the development and execution of a comprehensive digital transformation strategy for Manufacturing and Automation across Zoetis manufacturing network.
    • Lead the development of multi-year transformation roadmap in partnership with ZTD, GMT, GE.
    • Align digital initiatives with overall business goals and objectives, ensuring value creation and operational efficiency.
    • Partner with ZTD and GMT to develop business cases and return on investment (ROI) calculations for digital transformation initiatives within the roadmap
    • Provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and trends in digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0.
    • Develop the site digital automation strategy to support master planning at each manufacturing site. Collaborate with site leaders, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure effective implementation, adherence to best practices, and knowledge sharing, with a focus on unlocking data and analytics at every level. Develop change management strategy to drive effective site adoption.
  • Digital Transformation:
    • Lead the implementation of digital technologies, including Level 2 DCS, PCS, EMS, PMS/BMS, IoT (Internet of Things), AI, machine learning as a master plan in support of Level 1 SCADA, robotics, automated visual inspections and advanced analytics, to optimize manufacturing processes.
    • Define and lead the strategy for developing digital fluency within GMS and ZTD GMS to develop and support the workforce of the future
    • Lead the definition of the future organizational model to enable digital transformation within sites and across above site functions
    • Deliver best in class data analytics capabilities to enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and automated quality control.
    • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to align on integration of digital solutions with existing systems and infrastructure, ensuring seamless interoperability.
    • Implement a strategy for creating a 'Connected Frontline Worker' to provide a personalized work execution platform that seamlessly communicates across the shop floor and puts the power of AI in the hands of all workers.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Enable digital systems to optimize manufacturing to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
    • Lead standardization of Digital Lean Performance Excellence with digitized Tier Boards, Visual Management, Standard Work and CI (continuous improvement).
    • Implement data-driven decision-making processes and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of digital initiatives.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the manufacturing teams, creating communities of practice and driving change management.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Manufactuing, ZTD, GMT, Finance, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure alignment and integration of digital initiatives.
    • Communicate the vision, strategy, and progress of digital transformation efforts to Site Leaders and Site Leadership Teams.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with technology vendors and partners.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure that all digital manufacturing and automation processes comply with regulatory standards and industry best practices. Collaborate with quality and regulatory teams to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across all Digital Manufacturing & Automation projects.
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with the implementation of new technologies and processes.
    • Lead efforts to maintain cybersecurity and data integrity in digital manufacturing operations.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Build and lead a high-performing team of digital and automation experts.
    • Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages creativity and continuous learning.
  • Executive Support:
    • Laisse with Executive Functions - Work with Head of Manufacturing, Head of GMT, and with President of GMS's Chief of Staff to support organizational initiatives and coordinate aligned responses to queries on an as needed basis.
    • Confidentiality and Ethics - Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in handling sensitive information and ensure ethical conduct throughout the organization
Organizational Relationships:
  • Zoetis Tech and Digital, Global Manufacturing Technology, Finance, Engineering, OpEx, Quality, Manufacturing Site Leaders, etc.
  • Direct report to Head of Global Manufacturing and sit on Manufacturing LT
  • Dotted line report to Head of GMT and sit as extended Leadership Team member
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Information Systems
  • 15+ years' experience
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in automation, IoT, data analytics, AI, and ML in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing Manufacturing Execution Systems with Electronic Batch Records.
  • Domain knowledge across Manufacturing, Engineering & Maintenance.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams and drive change.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing automation strategies and driving digital transformation in global manufacturing organizations.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading digital smart factory initiatives, driving operational efficiency, and achieving measurable results.
  • A passion for innovation and a strong commitment to staying at the forefront of smart factory advancements.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in digital smart factory implementations, such as Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work across multiple concurrent activities and successfully adapt to changing priorities as required.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong experience in Agile Methodologies - e.g. SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework)
  • A thorough understanding of system GMP requirements and demonstrable knowledge of computer system design and maintenance lifecycle in GMP environments.
Technical Skills and Competence Required:
  • Experience in creating Digital Strategies for Manufaturing & Supply.
  • Proven ability to scale data & analytics solutions across a Manufacturing environment and delivery of significant value to the business.
  • Agile organizational design expert, creating cross-functional alignment for speed to value.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to align digital initiatives with business goals.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Willingness to travel globally to Zoetis sites as required.
