Human Resources Payroll Assistant

The Payroll Specialist/HR Technician works within the HR Data and Payroll Services division and is responsible for the timely and accurate payroll processing for assigned state department(s) with complex work schedules and payroll rules.
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Essential Functions:
Audit and process timesheets by time and attendance rules to include complex scheduling, overtime, and a variety of other compensation and incentive payments.
Familiarity with federal and Rhode Island payroll and wage and hour laws is preferred. Business and fiscal management acumen, proven HR skills and competencies, and the ability to interpret collective bargaining requirements related to the payroll function are desirable.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate should be detail-orientated, demonstrate high accuracy, and possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills. The successful candidate should be comfortable adapting to change and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
A minimum of an associate’s degree in public administration, human resources management, or a related field, with two years’ experience in a payroll function. Familiarity with state government organizations and the function of state departments and agencies is a plus. This temporary position is estimated to be for 18 months and works on-site in Providence, RI.
