Job Title: Project Controls Specialist

Location: Headquarters Office (Pittsburgh) with Hybrid Schedule – 3 Days in Office

Reports To: Director of Engineering



Position Overview:

As a Project Controls Specialist, you'll be a key player in supporting our Project Execution, Finance, and Development teams. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you'll work closely with project managers and other teams to ensure effective project oversight. Your responsibilities will include managing cost control, scheduling, and spend forecasting, while offering valuable insights into capital projects for senior leadership.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage project budgets, including tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, change management, estimating, and progress tracking.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and baselines, and report on any variances.
  • Ensure adherence to cost control and cash flow management throughout all project phases.
  • Support detailed schedule development based on team input.
  • Monitor project progress, identify bottlenecks, trends, and critical paths.
  • Oversee schedule development and maintenance in Microsoft Project, including creating custom schedule reports.
  • Identify project risks, communicate them, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Prepare project status presentations, highlighting key accomplishments, risks, and changes.
  • Develop custom project reports to support discussions and assist project managers.
  • Track project deliverables and monitor physical percent completion.
  • Provide financial data and documentation within project control systems.
  • Develop and follow a Project Controls Plan.
  • Review and validate project invoices for contractual compliance.
  • Assist in financial project close-out, record historical cost information, and document “lessons learned” for future reference.
  • Provide additional support as needed by project managers or the project controls manager, including field coordination and sub-project management.



Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Project Management, or a related field, with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in cost control, planning, and scheduling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven experience in setting up and monitoring complex project schedules.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in project controls, accounting, estimating, planning/scheduling, progress measurement, and forecasting/reporting.
  • Basic understanding of estimating and benchmarking.
