We are seeking an Access Control Systems Specialist who will be accountable for the setup and upkeep of essential systems, including but not limited to Access Control, related software, and Electronic Door Entry mechanisms. This role involves the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the specified systems. The Access Control Systems Specialist will serve as the primary contact for access control assistance within Facilities Management Services. This individual will participate in interdepartmental meetings and maintain effective communication among various teams and the broader campus community.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Installation and maintenance of access control systems, such as card readers, door strikes, and wireless locking mechanisms. Integration of access control systems with automated door opening solutions.
  • Conducting routine maintenance on access control systems.
  • Management of Access Control and associated software.
  • Receiving and assigning work orders to address customer concerns while ensuring positive interactions.
  • Assisting in the configuration of new access control device permissions.
  • Collaborating with Campus Design and Facilities Development to create work plans and assist in software configuration for new projects.
  • Acting as a liaison between Access Control and various campus entities to adjust door schedules and permissions as necessary.
  • Becoming a Subject Matter Expert in the access control application and working with technical support teams for assistance.
  • Participating in required training for professional development and departmental objectives.
  • Performing administrative tasks, such as ordering supplies and managing work order requests.
  • Managing work orders and adjustments using relevant software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should possess the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications. Strong analytical skills to evaluate technical challenges and implement effective solutions in a high-stakes environment are essential. Proficiency in installing and integrating various access control and door entry systems to achieve operational objectives is required. Familiarity with industry-specific electronic testing tools and the ability to work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines is necessary. Knowledge of door hardware specifications and life safety regulations is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from a technical institution or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of access control systems.
  • Proficient in MS-Excel, MS-Office, and Google Suite applications.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds and work on ladders and lifts.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces and navigating a large campus.
  • Exceptional organizational, accuracy, and communication skills are required, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in access control system design and installation.
  • Factory training from relevant access control manufacturers.
  • Five years of experience in the installation and maintenance of access control systems and/or applications administration.
  • Experience in institutional or educational settings.
  • Familiarity with automated entry systems and security systems.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Child protection clearances as required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Annual motor vehicle records check.
  • Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical examination.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
