Job Description:
Director of Recreation reports to the Director of Education. The Director of Recreation is responsible for the oversight of daily planning and executing of activities for the individuals the staff are assigned to work with, to include full responsibility in planning, coordinating and participation in on/off campus activities. The Director of Recreation is required to assist in maintaining the Gym; involve unit staff in conducting scheduled recreation activities; provide equipment and materials necessary to conduct evening and weekend activities; monitor and maintain supplies and ensure supplies are available and replaced. The Director of Recreation is required to develop, maintain, and submit reports timely, adhere to budgetary requirements and supervise a staff of 8-12 people. This position takes an active leadership role in assessing, developing, implementing, and monitoring all active treatment activities in assigned areas and ensures that specialized and generic active treatment activities occur based on individual preferences/choices and IDT identified strengths/needs. The Director of Recreation provides quality leadership through hands-on mentoring, coaching, and training to all staff to ensure implementation of the individual’s programming and compliance with applicable standards on active treatment. The Director of Recreation ensures that aquatic assessments, Special Olympics assessments, cycling assessments and all other recreational assessment are completed. This position is required to work a flex schedule and/or overtime to meet changing needs of the department.

Essential Job Functions:
1.Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
2.Reports on activities both on and off campus on a monthly excel spreadsheet.
3.Complete trip memos, monthly activity calendars
4.Identifies, develops, and implements recreational services for all RSSLC residents.
5.Provides hands-on coaching, teaching, and mentoring to all staff in assigned areas on integrating active treatment programs and effective positive interactions.
6.Organizes the community integration component to ensure every individual participates in non-routine community activities, and escorts individuals to planned activities when needed.
7.Participates in Individual Support Plans, Preps, home meetings and other IDT meetings when applicable.
8.Plans, schedules, and provides services to the homes in the delivery of evening, weekend, and holiday active treatment.
9.Supervises assigned staff in accordance with facility procedures to ensure the effective delivery of needed services.
10.Completes and/or evaluates assessments on individuals such as aquatics, special Olympics, bike riding, and any other recreational assessments.
11.Conduct duties that track and trend addressing needs for services and supports, ensuring those supports are practical and functional in the most integrated setting consistent with the individual’s needs and providing training opportunities in community settings.
12.Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
1. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school graduation or GED.
2. At least six months experience assisting in therapeutic activities. Good driving record.
3. Proven ability to work harmoniously with others.
4. Proven ability to maintain flexibility in work schedule.
5. Proven ability to develop and implement therapeutic activities in a group setting.
6. Proven ability to prioritize the variety of assignments.
7. Proven ability to remain standing or moving for several hours.
8. Proven ability to complete short written communication.
9. Proven ability to supervise others.
10. Proven ability to develop and maintain reports and databases.
11. Experience working in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
12. Experience working and providing leadership during active treatment activities.
