The Oregon State Police in Salem, Oregon is hiring for one (1) Full-Time, Limited Duration Office Specialist 2 position—expecting to end on or before 06/30/2025. The Limited Duration appointment may be extended beyond this date or may end prior to this date, based upon funding.

What will you do?

You will interpret, assess, and make accurate determinations for criminal history records maintenance, including: submitting documents for entry, modification, and/or deletion of date in order to assure complete and accurate criminal history information is available through LEDS for easy retrieval by other criminal justice and regulatory agencies. Completed records help support the Firearm Unit to identify individuals prohibited from possessing or transferring firearms for the purpose of updating Oregon records when appropriate and in preparation for data submission to the National Instant Check System (NICS).

Minimum Qualifications (these must be addressed in your resume for full consideration):

Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents;

OR

An associate degree in any field; 

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills (these must be addressed in your cover letter for full consideration):

  • Ability to communicate orally with agency staff, personnel in other agencies, the general public, and with equipment service technicians.

  • Proficient in processing documents, verifying, and checking accuracy.

  • Proven ability to make sound judgements and decisions in the application and explanation of laws and rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as computer terminal or photocopier.

  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office productivity applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to provide credible sworn testimony in a criminal or civil proceeding arising from the performance of duties.

  • Must be LEDS certified or be able to obtain certification upon hire.

Detailed Instructions on the Selection Process:

The process will be comprised of the following evaluation assessment (subject to change).

  • Interview- 10 questions based on preferred skills.

Reference Check: the hiring manager will review available documents, including but not limited to, the candidate’s working file, personnel file, HR department records, and Office of Professional Standards records, to determine if there exists any information which would adversely affect the candidate’s ability to adequately perform the duties of the position as it relates to the preferred skills.

The hiring manager will solicit relevant job-related, workplace feedback from a list of references furnished by the candidate, along with references from each current or previous place of employment, to determine if the candidate possesses the minimum qualifications and preferred skills for the job.
