This position requires a deep understanding of financial principles, including governmental accounting, cost accounting, project accounting, and budgetary oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the formulation, recommendation, and interpretation of financial and budgetary policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Collaborate with school personnel to develop and manage specific budget and expenditure plans.
- Prepare and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment of projected revenue and expenditures with actual figures, and make necessary budget amendments.
- Conduct audits and analyze accounts, generating reports on various fiscal activities by compiling and comparing account figures.
- Plan and execute a variety of budget and expenditure forecasts, fiscal simulations, and analyses.
- Initiate and validate various state, local, and federal financial reports and statements.
- Prepare journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Analyze financial statements and budgetary data, identifying trends and proposing solutions.
- Evaluate existing financial systems and automated reports for potential redesign or modernization.
- Generate special financial reports and statistical analyses as required.
- Maintain comprehensive statistical data and prepare periodic budgetary reports.
- Act as a financial advisor for various departments within the school system.
- Deliver detailed written and oral reports, including visual aids as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and legal requirements throughout the budgeting process.
- Promote adherence to equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, following all applicable laws and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of four years of experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management, with a preference for experience using Oracle Financials.
- Graduate-level education may substitute for up to two years of experience.
- CPA certification is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting practices and auditing procedures.
- Familiarity with current business practices and analytical techniques.
- Understanding of funding and cost accounting systems within educational institutions.
- Strong financial and budget analysis skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports and convey financial concepts to non-financial personnel.
- Proficiency in statistical methods and financial data analysis.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with school personnel and external agencies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access.
- Experience managing financial data analyses using specialized applications.
