Introduction
The Maryland Department of Planning (Planning) promotes a\r
vision for economic development and local authority throughout Maryland. The\r
agency helps Maryland's counties and municipalities in land use and resource\r
planning and provides review and technical assistance on a variety of planning\r
topics. \r
As Planning monitors and forecasts changes in development\r
and land use throughout the state, its staff creates tools that help plan\r
Maryland's future. Information on demographic, socioeconomic, political,\r
cultural, geographic and land-use trends is collected, analyzed, and\r
distributed in multiple formats. Planning supports interactive, web-based map\r
display of census data, land-use, parcel data and aerial imagery to assist\r
local government growth and land-use planning decisions.\r

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is 1) to analyze national and local economic trends, 2) develop employment projections for the state and its 24 jurisdictions, 3) collect and analyze economic data, 4) present findings of research, and 5) support SDAC staff.\r
POSITION DUTIES
Provide the Planning Department\r
with a quarterly report on the economic outlook for the state and jurisdictions\r
as it relates to development activity, competitiveness, and poverty reduction.�\r
Develop employment\r
projections for Maryland and its 24 jurisdictions in support of comprehensive\r
planning efforts.�\r
Create, update, and\r
maintain database(s) on socioeconomic statistics�\r
Prepare written analysis\r
with tables, charts, and maps for curated datasets published on the SDAC\r
website. Provide data and technical assistance to other units within the\r
Maryland Department of Planning as well as for other state agencies.�\r
Conduct special studies as\r
requested.\r
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:�� A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university that includes 30 credit hours in Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Architecture, Public Administration, Engineering, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Economics, Public Finance, Political Science, Sociology, Regional Science, Information Technology or Urban Affairs.\r
Experience:�Three years of experience in research and planning projects related to the development and use of land, water, transportation, community or natural resources by assisting in obtaining, analyzing and conducting research on demographic, socio-economic, political, cultural, geographic or land-use trends.\r

1.�Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of�the specified educational fields for one year of the required experience.*\r
2.�Candidates may substitute the possession of an additional Master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the specified educational fields for one additional year of the required experience.*\r
3.�Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in one of the specified�educational fields for two years of the required experience.*\r
*Two years is the maximum number of years that may be substituted by�education for the required experience.\r
4.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Logistics, Urban Planning, Architect, Geospatial Intelligence Analyst or Cryptologic classifications; or Logistics, Urban Planning or Architect specialty codes in the Architect field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education.\r

Experience with authoring reports and presentations to communicate findings and analysis.\r
