OVERVIEW

The Mechanical Operations Lead is accountable for overseeing and coordinating maintenance activities, with a particular emphasis on essential mechanical maintenance tasks. This includes both preventative and corrective measures on equipment such as pumps, scrolls, and centrifugal machines, ensuring objectives are met in terms of quality, reliability, safety, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.

This role promotes a safety-centric culture by leading through example, establishing clear expectations, and reinforcing positive behaviors throughout daily operations. Compliance with all company policies and procedures is paramount.

Identifying areas for improvement and developing actionable plans to address issues is a key responsibility, ultimately leading to successful resolutions.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Direct the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment by eliminating hazards, training staff, and fostering safety awareness across the facility.

2. Oversee incident reporting and conduct root cause analyses.

3. Implement corrective actions to mitigate safety risks, maintenance challenges, and waste, maximizing the continuous availability of refinery equipment.

4. Review, approve, and schedule maintenance work orders, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and inspecting work for accuracy and timeliness.

5. Coordinate daily maintenance tasks to optimize equipment uptime while utilizing available tools, materials, and manpower efficiently.

6. Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program in line with manufacturer and engineering guidelines, managing resource allocation and scheduling accordingly.

7. Interface with external vendors for equipment and parts procurement, collecting technical data for modifications or replacements.

8. Review expenditures to minimize unnecessary costs, including the consumption of supplies and machine parts.

9. Supervise special maintenance and engineering projects, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship.

10. Assist in the preparation and completion of both technical and non-technical documentation related to maintenance procedures and projects.

11. Ensure all areas and equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.

12. Conduct daily safety interactions and monthly safety meetings.

13. Prepare and monitor the scheduling and costs associated with contracted and major maintenance projects.

14. Collaborate with the Reliability Engineer/Planner in developing maintenance work plans for shutdowns and outages as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of mechanical systems, particularly regarding rotating and fixed equipment, is essential; electrical knowledge is advantageous.

Familiarity with NDT methods and the ability to interpret vibration and oil analysis reports are required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with scheduling, planning, and inventory management systems (SAP or similar) is preferred.

Experience with CMMS platforms is necessary.

Strong teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders are crucial.

Must possess the ability to write reports and correspondence clearly.

Staying updated on new technologies relevant to the role is important for enhancing performance.

Flexibility to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including potential weekend shifts and overtime, is required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, with three years in a supervisory maintenance role preferred.

Prior experience in a machine shop or equipment garage setting is advantageous.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

A High School Diploma or GED is required.
