As Director of Internal Communications at GSK, you will play a crucial role in delivering effective communication strategies for the US Commercial enterprise, in alignment with GSK's guidelines. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the comprehensive flow of communications to internal audiences, focusing on key initiatives that support business priorities. This will involve managing stakeholder relationships, internal channels, and processes to ensure clear and engaging communications.
  • In this role, you will work closely with the Communications Head and Business Unit Communication Leads to develop and execute communications plans that are aligned with the company's story, broader communications objectives, and business priorities. You will leverage company platforms and GSK's internal digital and site-based channels strategically to effectively engage employees, while also staying up to date with innovative technologies and communication trends.
  • To maximize the impact of internal communications, you will manage the flow of information and news across the business, ensuring that messages are delivered in a timely and impactful manner. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and tracking of key projects that support business objectives, managing budgets, meeting deadlines, and reporting progress and outcomes.
  • Collaboration will be a key aspect of your role. You will work closely with other members of the communication team to learn best practices, contribute new and innovative ideas for consideration, and improve team processes. Furthermore, you will actively contribute to various internal projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders and functional teams to effectively reach employees.
  • Your role will also involve delivering internal communications to support internal events, business milestones, and corporate initiatives. This will include ensuring the local implementation of priority global campaigns. Lastly, you will collaborate with the GSK US Commercial communications team to ensure alignment and awareness of key programs and business priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for the Director of Internal Communications position, we are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in communications or a liberal arts focus, such as English/writing, government/history. This educational background provides a solid foundation for effective communication strategies and content development.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in both internal and external communications is required. This should include at least 2 years of experience specifically in the pharmaceutical industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of the unique challenges and dynamics within this sector.
  • A minimum of 5 years of strategic planning and the ability to develop compelling content across a diverse range of platforms and media. We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable with digital-friendly formats and possess storytelling experience through various media or techniques. The ability to create both branded and unbranded content and a willingness to innovate are highly valued.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • In addition to the basic qualifications, the following preferred qualifications will strengthen your candidacy for the Director of Internal Communications position:
  • Exceptionally strong writing skills and the ability to quickly synthesize complex information into understandable and relatable messages. Attention to detail and grammar is of utmost importance in delivering clear and concise communications.
  • An excellent track record in communications, demonstrating a proven ability to effectively engage and connect with various audiences. Your experience should showcase your skill in crafting impactful messages that resonate with employees and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential, particularly in managing relationships with multiple and diverse stakeholders, including senior leaders. The ability to build rapport, collaborate, and influence others will be key to driving successful communication initiatives.
  • Proficiency in project management is highly desirable. This includes the ability to exercise sound judgment, navigate ambiguous situations, and handle sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion. Your expertise in managing complex projects will contribute to the seamless execution of internal communication strategies.
  • Strong executive presence is essential for this role. As the Director of Internal Communications, you will be expected to confidently counsel senior leaders within the organization, providing guidance and support in effectively communicating their messages.
