The Opportunity

This role will be within the Black & Veatch Energy Utilities group (E&PI) supporting design teams in developing utility-scale solar projects. This is a hybrid role. This candidate is expected to work 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.

Job Summary
Functions in a senior lead engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and perform assignments of a design nature by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may provide direction to other engineering professionals.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design teams in developing utility-scale solar projects MW+).
  • Coordinate deliverables with other groups to minimize interference or errors.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers, technicians, project coordinators, project managers, and support staff to produce site plans, detailed engineering drawings, profiles, construction drawings, and details for Utility Scale Solar PV systems.
  • Participate in multi-discipline teams, including design engineers and system studies engineers, with support from Engineering Technicians.
  • Support early-stage project development with conceptual designs and material take-offs.
  • Develop initial system conceptual ideas into fully optimized EPC designs.
  • Contribute to the continual development of internal solar engineering standards, tool sets, and work processes.
  • Convert field survey data into topographic survey drawings and surfaces suitable for producing site plans and construction drawings.
  • Utilize Excel spreadsheets, commercial, and proprietary engineering software to design Solar PV systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
  • Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
  • Typically, a minimum of 11 years of related work experience
  • Autodesk Civil 3D
