Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno invites candidates for the position of Senior Server Administrator in IT Operations, a service unit of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager of IT Operations, the Senior Server Administrator position will support all server operating systems and enterprise hardware/software.

In addition to Senior Server Administration duties of designing, deploying, securing, maintaining, and monitoring general systems and services, this position will primarily focus on a team-based mission of improving and enhancing the entirety of our virtual server environments managed by IT Operations for the University of Nevada, Reno. This includes shortening support response times and improving the performance, resource allocation, usage reporting, and security of all systems. This position is also tasked with hardware responsibilities that supports the enterprise ITOps virtual Infrastructure (Dell/EMC VXRail, Dell PowerStore SAN storage, Dell PowerScale, fiber channel switches, load balancers, VMWare Administration, and Data Domain enterprise backup appliances). All these duties are in addition to co-supporting another virtual environment for our Medical School and associates.

Typical systems overseen by an incumbent for the Senior Server Administrator positions include physical and virtual servers running Microsoft Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems. In addition to server-based environments, cloud- or web-based application management (Office365 OneDrive, WordPress, or Sympa, for example) may also fall under the responsibility of these positions. Team members work together supporting daily operational duties to meet goals and deadlines. However, autonomy and independent action is required at times to work effectively across OIT. This position will also participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with university goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related work experience OR

Master's degree and two (2) years of related work experience.

Related Experience: IT experience in an enterprise or university environment managing or maintaining Linux/Windows servers; demonstrated experience with progressively responsible technical skills or related experience.
