Job Title: Server Repair Technician

Location: Reno, NV

Hourly Rate: $19

Job Overview:

The Server Repair Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the highest value of our products while protecting sensitive data stored on our systems. This position requires a strong understanding of hardware and software components, as well as excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate electronic assets and determine their value based on physical and operational condition.
  • Perform data security on electronic assets to ensure confidentiality and integrity.
  • Configure, upgrade, and test computer hardware and peripherals to ensure optimal performance.
  • Inspect, classify, diagnose, evaluate, disassemble, and repair computer hardware to identify and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate and identify hardware for specific disposition, including resale, repair, harvest, or recycle.
  • Upgrade products through the addition of new hardware to extend their lifespan.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace worn or defective parts to ensure optimal performance.
  • Work with Sales to evaluate the feasibility of repairing and/or upgrading assets.
  • Enter detailed asset information into our ERP system, including data security software.
  • Evaluate inventory on hand to determine if parts are available for upgrade and/or repair, and submit orders for parts as needed.
  • Install operating systems to computer products according to procedure.
  • Cross-train in all areas within Operations to ensure site flexibility and contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of our Operations systems and processes.
  • Locate, identify, and record server and storage array manufacturers, models, serial numbers, internal components, modules, features, and cosmetic condition.
  • Access BIOS or storage array controllers to set functions to defaults, adjust boot order, delete logs, identify, and remove asset text or tags.
  • Access RAID Controller to clear RAID configurations and create LUN for each hard drive.
  • Boot servers to a network and run drive wipe and diagnosis software like Blancco, Softhinks, and Drive Wipe.
  • Access iLO, iDRAC, IMM, and CIMC to clear logs and reset to factory defaults.
  • Understand IP addressing and set IP addresses and Netmask to access functions of rack mount and blade server chassis servers.
  • Diagnose common server problems and remove and replace failed components like Hard Drives, Power Supplies, RAM, CMOS, and RAID batteries.
  • Harvest, test, properly handle, and package internal server components from failed servers for resale and repair.
  • Enter all server and storage array information into our ERP system and attach process logs or wipe records.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in a technology field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with hardware products, preferably in a repair-related field.
  • Strong computer literacy and problem-solving skills.
  • Results-oriented, team-oriented, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel to other sites or customer locations (10% of time).
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more, team lift heavier assets, proper pallet building, and reconciliation.
  • Ability to manage and track multiple assets at one time.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Diagnostic and troubleshooting ability.
  • BIOS configuration.
  • Ability to configure, repair, and/or upgrade electronic assets.
  • Ability to identify and install PC hardware and peripherals.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in various forms (written, oral, or diagram).
  • Strong written, verbal, and comprehension communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Wide range of technical repair/training.
  • Familiarity with asset management/value recovery programs.
  • Certifications for technical product lines, networking, computers, mobile telecom.
  • Knowledge of Apple and Microsoft applications and operating systems.
