Precise Systems is seeking a dedicated Payroll Specialist to join our team. This full-time, regular position is ideal for an entry-level professional looking to establish a career in payroll management within a dynamic and supportive environment. As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate processing and recording of the company's payroll, providing timely and accurate financial information, and participating in daily data entry payroll processing.

This role will require you to work closely with the HR department to ensure smooth payroll transactions and to address any discrepancies or queries related to payroll. Your attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of the payroll system. The successful candidate will be expected to stay updated on payroll regulations and company policies affecting payroll procedures.

If candidate is not local to VA/MD, there will be periodic travel requirements. DUTIES:

  • Ensures all assigned payrolls are processed accurately and timely
  • Assists with new hire set up in the payroll system of record
  • Assists with out-processing of employees through the payroll systems
  • Generates payroll reports, including any fiscal and reporting requirements from funding sources and benefit administration
  • Assist with the timesheet correction process
  • Calculate and submit various accounting and payroll adjustments such as separation/termination
  • Research resolve payroll issues for all employees, hourly and salary
  • Works proactively to collaborate with HR team
  • Assists with Workers Comp calculations REQUIRED EDUCATION: HS DIPLOMA and/or PAYROLL CERTIFICATION REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 3 or more years of payroll or similar experience. Additional experience should include:
  • GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING EXPERIENCE
  • ADP WORKFORCE NOW
  • ERP SYSTEMS EXPERIENCE, DELTEK COSTPOINT IS A PLUS
  • PAYROLL PROCESSING AND RECONCILIATION EXPERIENCE

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent relevant work experience in payroll or related field.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Capability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.

Required Experience

  • Limited use and/or application of basic payroll principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Limited knowledge of industry practices and standards related to payroll.
  • Experience with data entry and the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
  • Experience in processing payroll and resolving payroll issues.
  • Understanding of general HR functions and how they relate to payroll.
  • Familiarity with payroll tax filing and reporting.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Prior experience with payroll systems and software is preferred but not required.
