The Assistant Program Coordinator/Senior Social Worker (MSW) is assigned to the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) at the Brockton campus.

The clinical and programmatic activities are within the Intensive Community Integrated Recovery and Treatment (ICIRT) Section for V.A. Boston Mental Health System.


The incumbent performs intensive mental health recovery oriented treatment to Veterans with serious health conditions and their significant others that include engagement, assessment individual treatment planning, consult/outcome management, clinical and community interventions.

The incumbent is also responsible for key project activities related to planning, development and implementation of assigned projects, covering for the program manager as needed.


Duties include:


Provision of comprehensive evidence-based and recovery-oriented care for veterans with serious mental health conditions thru the application of advanced skill in psychiatric rehabilitation approaches and advanced practices such as group and individual psychotherapy family treatments high risk screenings.

Motivational interviewing CBT for Psychosis, Social Skills training, family consultation illness Management and recovery, to support Veteran's pursuit of individualized recovery goals and progress toward valued community role(s).


Conducts comprehensive assessments, intakes that incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veterans, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.

Creates an active recovery environment, utilizing motivational interviewing, guiding recovery principles, and other pertinent interventions and evidence-based practices to address barriers to treatment such as negative symptoms of schizophrenia, depression, isolation, external and internalized stigma

Contributes substantially to maintaining program standards set by VA Boston, VA Central office, accrediting organizations (JC/CARF), and program assessments through NEPEC, including safety standards, program policies, and quality control

Provides crisis intervention via rapid assessments and/or developing crisis management plans for chronically suicidal veterans as well as safety plans or behavioral contracts

Flexibility of contracts (Veterans are seen in the community and with any person or agency to promote community inclusion) that includes a hybrid model of in-person and virtual care which the social worker provides oversight for these activities as assigned


A focus on strengthening Veterans ability to address acute and chronic problems by developing strategies for maintaining wellness and provision of a therapeutic and supportive learning environment for veterans designed to maximize functioning in all domains of health and life.

Mobilization of natural supports and community resources to promote community inclusion that emphasizes independent self-directed engagement in community activities

Providing individual and group evidence-based, recovery-oriented psychotherapy as indicated for veterans and carrying a caseload.

Arranging and leading meetings with veterans, families, guardians, and other providers


Clinical consultation and training for VA residents, trainees, staff and volunteers on psychosocial rehabilitation implementation of best practices and to actively engage in expanding their knowledge skills and attitudes that fully embrace the recovery principles and values in all areas of practice and program.


Leads meetings with the interdisciplinary treatment team in the development and regular updates of individualized veteran-centered treatment plans and uses empirically supported instruments for monitoring progress/outcomes, and appropriate transition.


Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of practice and services, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services based on the National PRRC Directive and leading assigned ongoing projects.


Covers for the PRRC Program Manager as needed and provides supervision for unlicensed and adjuntive staff both formally and informally as assigned for support, utilization, and management of caseloads.
