Position Overview

The Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC) seeks a temporary Teaching Specialist position for Spring Semester 2025. This position will be responsible for teaching a three-credit, 5000-level course for master's students in the Master of Development Practice (MDP) program.This interdisciplinary degree program prepares students to work in the field of international, sustainable development. The core syllabus for the course has already been developed. The instructor will prepare and teach the course in consultation with the MDP program director and with logistical support from ICGC.

Estimated Salary: $7,500.00

Job Responsibilities
Teaching (100%)
-Course development or other preparation required to successfully teach the courses
-Instruction of course material
-Student support, as needed, including availability for office hours
-Course grading and administration


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
-Masters degree is required
-Teaching experience
-Demonstrated competency of course content
-Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching or professional experience, and the commitment to support the University's work in diversity, equity, and inclusion
-Substantial qualitative research background (international qualitative research experience preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:
-PhD in related field
-Experience teaching research methods
-Familiarity with Master of Development Practice program or similar graduate program related to sustainable or international development
-Work or research experience in international or sustainable development


About the Department

Program and Department Overview
The Master of Development Practice (MDP) degree program is offered by the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC). This position is located in ICGC, a unit of the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance..

ICGC: ICGC is a campus-wide center at the University of Minnesota that seeks to foster an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural community of faculty and students committed to supporting and advancing research, education, and collaborative initiatives related to global change, with a focus on the Global South.

MDP Program: This two-year interdisciplinary degree program is part of a global network that prepares graduate students for a career in sustainable development, equipping students with the competencies, skills, and knowledge needed to work toward poverty alleviation and sustainable development in various regions of the world. It prepares young professionals for careers in sustainable development-globally, locally, and in the complex realities in between.

A strategic blend of training in theory and practice equips MDP graduates with knowledge, skills, and competencies essential to appropriate and effective engagement with the broad coalitions addressing society's complex sustainable development challenges.

Minnesota's MDP program is a cooperative, interdisciplinary endeavor comprising faculty from six collegiate units at the University of Minnesota. MDP faculty work both locally and globally, and with notable partnerships and extensive experience in Colombia, Guatemala, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, the Middle East/North Africa region, and more. The MDP experience centers on engagement. Student inquiry and action typically begin with challenges framed by local and global partners, with engaged learning experiences occurring through campus-based coursework, field-based summer placements, a culminating capstone project, and a variety of co-curricular opportunities.
