Teaching Specialist and Lecturer Positions

The University of Minnesota is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill Academic Instructor positions in the Department of English. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to teach and mentor students in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities- Teach courses in Creative Writing and Literature, developing and implementing engaging lesson plans and assessments.
- Develop and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment, fostering a sense of community and respect among students.
- Stay current with developments in the field of Creative Writing and Literature, applying this knowledge to enhance teaching and research.
- Hold regular office hours, providing support and guidance to students outside of class.
- Evaluate student learning and assign grades, providing constructive feedback to students.
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and administrators, both in person and in writing.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of curriculum and programs.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, staying up-to-date with best practices in teaching and learning.
- MFA or PhD in Creative Writing or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of college teaching experience in Creative Writing or a related field.
- Strong teaching and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues.
- Ability to develop and implement engaging lesson plans and assessments.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Two or more years of college teaching experience in Creative Writing or a related field.
- Broad familiarity with Creative Writing and Literature, with a strong understanding of the field's key concepts and theories.
- One published book or book in press, demonstrating expertise in the field.
